Canned baby foods
I got this "translated" by Google (I don't have the time to translate, am at work), so please excuse the weird (and occasionally funny) text. This was an article in a major Norwegian newspaper (Dagbladet) this morning about canned baby food. The main point of the article was, don't use canned food for all meals, the baby would not learn how to differentiate tastes, and could develop bad eating habits over time.
Now if you do wade through the entire oddly translated piece, look at the final paragraph. Not only is it impossible to tell any pure tastes, but it's also bland and STERILISED.
Oh yum, I'm feeding this to my hypothetical kid all day!
By the way, if you're puzzled by phrases like "noon glasses" and "button time", that's google's fault, it's not some kind of eccentric Norwegian concept...
Here we go:
"Food on the glass has been on the market for about 30 years. Today, there are a large variety of food and fruit offered to babies from four months upwards.
The food has different tastes and fits your child's age. Known manufacturers are Nestlé, little people, and Hipp.
Food expert Christopher Sjuve: Baby Cook is a must for parents who want to make healthy baby food - quickly.
- Tastes like
- It is unnecessary to give the children these glasses, "says specialist psychologist at the National Centre for children with eating disorders at the National Hospital, Helle Schiørbeck to Klikk.no.
She says glassmat not teach children to like carrots and broccoli, even though this is two of the vegetables that go again.
- In the glasses are food and wine mixed together so that children can not find out what flavor they like best and what they do not like so well. Everything tastes very similar, "says Schiørbeck.
Here is the healthiest baby food
Developer not eating disorders
The National Centre for children with eating and nutrition problems at the hospital they take the child from the country that are struggling to get the food. The goal is to teach all children to eat.
- It's not that children necessarily have eating disorders by eating baby food from the glass.
Fear failure and malnutrition
- Many feel confidence by giving kids these glasses. Firstly, it is simple, they cost not so much, and parents feel confident that the food is properly balanced. Nutrition-wise, there is nothing wrong with the contents, but the children do not learn to like the food family or eat, "says Schiørbeck.
She and her colleagues find that many parents are uncertain how much sauce, potatoes, meat and vegetables their child will need during the day. They are afraid to make mistakes, and resort to food on the glass. They fear failure and malnutrition.
Be careful with the salt
- If the parents are a little cautious with the salt, your kids they are just a few months old to eat normal, home-cooked food. In the beginning you can give small samples. Children learn to like plain food more quickly without the glasses, said Schiørbeck.
- But when it is said, there is no shame to use glassmat in between, walking and outdoors. It must just not be normal.
How to get your child table manners
Homemade works
The food at the least must be mashed, and custom mouth and motor skills. Pure tastes, it is best to begin with.
- Give the children fruit mosses and grønnsakpureer. Do not be afraid of making mistakes. Children should get used to the flavors that are dominant in the culture they grow up in. Mash potatoes in sauce, do the same with vegetables, fruit and other things that are on the menu, we recommend Schiørbeck.
- Remember that children need to try anything between 10 and 15 times before they like the taste.
Bad time
Nestlé Norway believes button time is the main reason why parents use the dinner on glass to the youngest. The company believes that parents trust that the glasses are nutritionally correct complex.
- Many parents will not have time to create food for their children, "says communications manager Marianne Aaberg in Nestlé Norway.
- We agree that it is possible for parents to make such food itself, and that noon glasses probably tastes just as exciting for adults. It is also not intended. All baby food from Nestlé for children under 1 year, without added salt. Thus, it tastes somewhat tame for adults.
"Large market for ready meals for children
Nestle says that they want to ensure that children receive food that is nutritionally appropriate complex.
Sales figures would not make public, but selsapet said that sales of noon glass remains stable and that the snack products are becoming increasingly popular.
Sterilized baby food
- The reason why some baby food tastes like, is that the food loses some flavor when it is sterilized. It is not permitted to use preservatives in children's food. For the youngest children under 1 year, we do not compensate by using salt, because we aim to reduce the added salt in all our products to make them healthier, "said Aaberg."
