They are convenient and fun! But I have a mini van and generally just take a bike (or two) when I go out of town alone..

ride on freaky dude!!

Seriously though, doin dandy! I am back riding but not as much as I'd like. My back (inflamed disc) is still keeping me off my mountain bike and the trails, but with the mosquito's out in enough force to carry away small children....and the ticks are nuts this year too...I can wait till things dry out a bit..and till my back is better.

I am riding my road bike more but am so far behind on my mileage goal....the funny thing is I have ZERO pain in the saddle...so I am going to really amp up the road bike rides and bike commuting...

from my blog...

Sitting here reviewing the absolute failure of this years cycling log has me thinking. First off, my back (still messed up BTW) is not the reason for lower miles though I did lose some miles when I did not know what was wrong and was starting to care for it. The late snow and cruddy spring also took some miles and was an issue but still not why I call my log a representation of failure.
I call fail because I did not ride my bike to work when I could have. I let a lot of little things stop me that could have been better planned. I also did not ride as often as I should due to just not going or not having anyone to ride with. The latter being an excuse. And I managed to not ride any century ride this year.
There were some pluses though. My first mountain Bike Race. I rode my Mountain Bike a whole lot more too.
So what to do for next year? I have to seize any opportunity to ride, plan to ride more and not let excuses take me out of a ride. It can be done. A person can find and make the time to ride and not compromise the rest of their life.
Sooo, any miles the rest of the year will be gravy and next year the ticker starts again.

Probably not the right thread for this but...

I'm feeling rather pathetic.

A few years ago, I was really active and doing LC hardcore. Had done a few 50+ mile rides. Now I've gained more than 1/2 my weight back (70 pounds) and riding just 10 miles the other day was really pushing myself.

I just feel so pathetic right now; I can't believe how far I've fallen. I'm filled with self loathing.

I know this isn't hardcore exercise (right now), but I aspire to back in "fighting form" and just wanted to put down in words that I WILL BE BACK! (in this forum posting great rides etc.)

Don't feel pathetic. So you "fell". It happens to a lot of us. The trick is to take that feeling and use it as free fuel for the fire! You are riding again, and that is great!

The beauty about all of this is in no time at all you will notice you are getting stronger and stronger as a rider.

Good luck on your journey!
