Default Low-carb alternatives to high-carb foods?

Hello everyone, I'm new here!

I just wanted to start a thread where we could share and discuss our recipes and ideas for low-carb alternatives to high-carb foods. I was particularly looking for a low-carb alternative to jam - does anyone have any ideas for this? I was thinking to melt some frozen summer fruits or something, but that wouldn't stay 'lumpy' like normal jam is.

Feel free to discuss any other recipes and ideas!

This forum does not really get much traffic, so you might want to post this under the general low carb forum.

Here are some swaps I use:

1. Sauteed spinach, shredded zuchinni, spaghetti squash, etc... for pasta sauces.

2. portabello for a pizza base

3. roasted jicama "fries" or sometimes jicama "baked apples"

4. flax muffins/bread for bread

Browse the recipe forums, you will find recipes for just about everything under the sun!

Oh, and for jam, I just use Smucker's sugarfree jam. It has 5 carbs/tbsp.

Shirataki is a great pasta substitute:

Soy crisps for potato chips
For baking, xylitol for sugar, almond and hazelnut flour for flour
(I've made cake, cookies & brownies this way that turned out great)
TVP for rice
Cheese, lettuce or celery for bread (depending on use)
Unsalted nuts, berries & plain yogurt for breakfast cereal

LC jam replacement would be "Red Fruit Jelly" from the Vegetarian Low Carb Diet book. It's made with raspberry, strawberry or loganberry tea bags and vegetarian gelatin.
Put in on the "Pancakes" from the same book....so good! My kids "steal" so many, I have to make a batch just for them.
