I am currently on Atkins, my second go-round. The first time I lost 30lbs in 2010. This time I'm not losing as quickly. I was lower carb before Atkins and I stopped drinking. I started exercising. Now I'm 17 days in, still on induction, and I've lost only 5 lbs since I started Atkins despite the fact that I'm not cheating and I'm doing my best to follow the book (New Diet Revolution) religiously.
I recently had an issue with cheese sensitivity, to add to my gluten intolerance, and a list of about a bazillion other things I cannot tolerate. My weight went up when I ballooned up from the cheese. I'm still recovering from that.
Someone suggested maybe I should look at Paleo, so here I am. To lurk, maybe ask a few questions, and see if this would be a better option for me.
There's a recipe thread at the top of the forum that might give you meal ideas. Basically it is meat, veggies, fruit (possibly limited if you're losing weight), nuts, coconut, etc. No dairy, no grains, no fake foods. Not everyone is super strict, so you can kind of dial in the parameters you need to make it livable.
Welcome HoneyRose,
Feel free to ask specific questions, but this isn't a very active sub- forum here. I think that is because the popularity of Paleo took off through other popular websites and podcasts, which have their own active forums. Mark Sisson's MDA website is extensive, with a good search function and huge forum. Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution podcast and website also very popular. His book focuses on digestive issues in addition to being a good all around Paleo guide that excludes dairy. Download his freebies to start. I follow a low-carb Atkins program and the guidelines of Primal eating too (some limiited dairy is allowed)...eat only real whole foods allowed with Primal and count the carbs. Mark Sisson's eating low on the carbohydrate curve.

Nothing wrong with that. Finding what works and sticking to it is more important than losing a lot of weight quickly and then stopping the diet.
Welcome! I switched from South Beach to Primal after losing a substantial (for me) amount of weight. Your expectations of Atkins might be unrealistically high this time around if you are older, or perhaps have metabolic or hormonal issues that you didn't have before and might not even be aware of now. Losing slowly doesn't mean that it doesn't work, maybe just that it will take longer than you had hoped. That said, I love the Paleo/Primal w.o.e. The simplicity of it is perfect for someone like me who is generally impatient and intolerant of fiddling around with 10-ingredient recipes. Fatty cuts of meat, poultry, fish and non-starchy vegetables is the first principle. Buying the very best quality food (e.g. pastured if possible) that your budget will allow would be the next principle. No processed food at all. Paleo is more restrictive than I can manage, but Primal allows a few more options. After living this simply I can't imagine going back to "complicated" food ever again. Good luck on your journey!
