Thanks, WereBear. I think. I'm pretty sure we did fruit fly experiments in high school science, but I can't remember what they were.

As to the original topic: we are still not eating sugar at our house, in spite of the temptations towards self-pity during self-isolation. If a completely unscientific survey of my web contacts is to be believed, massive consumption of cookies is happening across America.

Wherever you are geographically, we're not out of the woods yet epidemiologically.

Stay home. Stay well. Stay out of the cookie jar. Or not.

Fruit flies are often studied to understand genetics. With short lives and rapid breeding, you can count red eyes vs. mutated white eyes in several generations in one school term.

No sugar in this house and no wheat or other things that tax my immune system and trigger allergenic asthma responses either. Fragrance-free soap, rubbing alcohol & hydrogen peroxide work for sanitizing my house and car, but chemical & fragrance-laden wipes for cart handles and disinfection at the grocery store cause my eyes and throat to itch, burn & inflame - another good reason to stay home!
