For those of you who seem to be the resident heart health experts, how much folic acid should I take to protect my heart re homocystine levels?
My MD recommended Folgard, but there are two levels: 800mcg, or 5mg that is prescription.Thanks-
E
Green leafy vegetables contain B vitamins, including folate. The prescription level is presumably only for people who are extremely deficient.
If you take a B complex tablet in addition to a multivitamin, you will get MORE than enough for preventative therapy. B's are water soluble so you won't get too much. It's when you start taking the concentrated forms of one B vitamin that you can cause imbalances and that "can" lead to problems.
Thanks for the replies. I did find out that anything over 1mg of folic acid is prescription. The Folgard comes in 3 levels: 5 mg, 2.2 mg, and the 800mcg.I think I'll take the 800mcg and see how I do. I really appreciate the info.
Thanks-
Eno
