Default Tonalin CLA and low carb dieting

Has anyone used Tonalin CLA (or equivilant) while following the Atkins diet? I've had several people tell me it works great with low fat diets but I was wondering how it affected low carb diets.

I have heard nothing but good things about it -- but it seemed to be slowing me down.

oooooohhhhhhhh, this might be the answer to my problem right here:

Quote:
Cis-linolenic acid (CLA) is the chief polyunsaturated fatty acid found in most vegetable oils, such as sunflower, safflower, corn, soy and sesame oils. Yet its only two known functions in the human body are to be burned for fuel (like any fatty acid), or to serve as the substrate to produce GLA. The conversion of CLA to GLA is catalyzed/controlled by the activity of the enzyme delta-6-desaturase (D6D). According to the world's premier GLA researcher, Dr. David Horrobin, the activity of D6D can be blocked by a host of factors (10):

1) Trans-fatty acids (common in hydrogenated oils, margarine's and shortenings).
2) High saturated fat intake.
3) Cholesterol.
4) Deficiencies of zinc, pyridoxine (vitamin B6), or magnesium.
5) Diabetes - i.e. severe insulin deficiency.
6) Excessive alcohol intake.
7) Aging.
8) Oncogenic viruses.
9) Chemical carcinogens.
10) Ionising radiation.

since my diet is high in saturated fat -- I probably can not convert it!

I also take 4 grams of Omega 3s everyday.

Thanks for helping me figure out why CLA did not work for me!

Great information. Thanks. So maybe this is a waste of money for lo-carbers.

You might try it and see. It can't hurt. If you are looking for supplements to speed weight loss, you might to check out

I was told it helps to get rid of the dimples in the thighs and butt area. I don't want to take it if it slows down my weight loss on Atkins.

Whoa! Cis-linolenic acid is NOT the same as Tonalin CLA.

Chemistry lesson: Tonalin CLA is a mixture of two isomers of conjugated linoleic acid, cis-9/trans-11 and trans-10/cis-12. Cis-linolenic acid is cis-9/cis-12/cis-15, and is the chief polyunsaturated fatty acid in vegetable oil.

Personally, I take 4 grams of CLA a day and it does work. However, I walk at least 6 miles a day 6 days a week.

Thanks for the chemistry lesson. I suck at that. I probably should start learning more.

I exercise for at least one hour five days per week. It isn't the same as walking six miles per day but it is a start. Since I just started this diet, do you think it would be better to take it during induction or not?

Probably safe for induction. CLA are fatty acids, so they won't affect ketosis. (But I'm on a semi low-carb diet, not the Atkins diet.)
