There is another message board I go to sometimes and I was surprised to read a post from a woman that is having problems losing weight. She has an Atkins nutritionist she either goes to or is in contact with through the Atkins web site...not sure which one, but anyway the nutrionist told the woman to start only eating 1000 calories a day.
Don't you think is is crazy, or is it just me?
I can't believe an Atkins nutritionist would recommend that low of a calorie intake. The woman was not happy about it at all. She said it reminds her of the low fat low calorie days. What do you think about this?BTW the woman's CW is 177 lbs and she wants to weigh 110
Dr A. does discuss metabolically resistant people in his book (those that no matter what cannot lose weight) and he talks about the "Fat Fast", which is 1000 calories, 90% derived from fat. This could be what the 'nutritionist' was talking about (but I too would question who this Atkins nutritionist actually is!).
I would assume that is probably what was recommended?
Yes, I was thinking the same thing about the Fat Fast being the only low-calorie regimen endorsed officially by Atkins. Even the FAQ's at the Atkinscenter.com website, which is the official site ... lists NOT EATING ENOUGH as a reason for a stall, and discusses starvation mode and slowed metabolism (albeit only a brief sentence or two).
(those that no matter what cannot get into ketosis to lose weight)
He actually states that you have to be in ketosis before starting the fat fast and recommends that you do the induction and then swing into fat fast.
I'm re-reading Atkins again. I can't believe all the information there that I skimmed over before. I just wanted to get to the "juicy bits." This time I started in the middle of the book, after all the "bits."
I did go back and get more info and this is what she said.

"I believe the reason that the Atkins nutritionist told me to go this low is because I am only 4 " 10' and I have a small frame.
I did the phone consult and got one chance to update her on my progress after a month for no extra charge. If this doesn't work, I have to set up another phone consult and she mentioned that my body might have gotten too efficient at using the ketones and we will try adding in some very low glycemic carbs - frankly, that scares me more than cutting the calories." Doesn't this sound like bad advice coming from the Atkins Nutrition staff? I don know, it just doesn't seem right to me. I would think this would hurt her more than help her.
