Default Rock like feeling in Stomach

OK, I will come straight to all your South Beach experts for this one.

A friend of mine has recently started South Beach, still in induction period. She really doesn't have much to lose, I think she has just put on a few pounds lately and is trying to turn the tide before it gets to late.

But her concern is about the rock-like feeling in her stomach she gets often after she eats.

Does anyone have a clue to what or why she is getting this? As far as I know she is follow induction to the letter. Any ideas would be very helpful.

Maybe she's eating more cheese than she's used to which can cause "back up" (aka constipation). If this is the case, I would suggest she get rid of cheese for her snacks and have nuts and veggies instead.

I felt like that also when I started South Beach. I added more dark green veggies such as spinach and drank some Metamucil 3 times a day. That got me on a more regular schedule......definately sounds like gas or constipation.

I sometimes get that when I have been low-carbing and then have carbs. If I eat bread, rice or crackers now, I get that really heavy feeling in my tummy like a solid mass is lying there. I think my digestive system has changed and finds digesting carbs more difficult. I'm alright once I go back to just protein and veggies.

I have that after a 3 egg omelette in hotels that serve it without any veggies.

If she only has a few lbs to loose (less than 10) she should not do induction. She should just cut out all white bread, soda, anything with sugar, sweets, white starch stuff (potato, rice, pasta), and otherwize keep her normal diet - basically do phase 3. It should work. Doing induction for a few lbs is overkill and makes it likely that she looses water, and then, when she has lost the weight, goes back to "normal" eating, meaning the carbs will call the water back, and she will be back to square 1.
