Doreen:

Out of interest I thought it might encourage people to know that my cholesterol was 6.68 when I started to lose weight, after 10% weight loss it was 5.63 and when I reached my goal weight it is now 5.18. So weight loss does help. I had to cut out the fat too though as just low carbs alone was not enough it did not drop my cholesterol. I guess everyone is different. Encouragement to all who are trying to lower their cholesterol.

Question now I'm curious

My total cholesterol is in the caution level, 5.5 mMol/L, although LDL is ok, and total cholest. to HDL ratio is good, 3.3 (desirable to be below 5). From a weight loss point of view, I definitely have to keep fats in check, and in particular the animal fats, cheese, etc.
My brother, on the other hand, is following Atkins and eats lots of fats, extra fat in fact! The weight is falling off, and his cholesterol - without medication - has dropped from 9 to below 6 mMol/L.

Now I'm wondering is this a gender thing? That being said, I'm also hypothyroid, which kinda throws a wrench into the picture, but ....

Hmmm, interesting. I have to have more bloodwork in March, so we'll see, since the above results were pre-lowcarbing. My blood pressure is down from 160/100 to 110/80. I still have at least 30 lbs to go, but my loss so far has hit the 15% point, so that has to count for something.
