I guess most locarb folks aren't too proud of their cholesterol numbers.
It's strange how locarb helps cholesterol numbers in some and harms it
in others.
IMHO, this post is worthless and should be deleted.

Perhaps the point is that many of us don't really worry about cholesterol numbers after doing research. In my case, HDL is 104, tris 36, total 217. HDL and tris somewhat better than on low fat 6 years ago.

No medications, and current numbers based on avoiding vegetable fats/oils, and embracing saturated fats.

Default my cholesterol

I just got my results back today and still not quite sure how you get the total..
Cholesterol 305
LDL205
HDL 83
Triglycerides 86

I dont find my sheet for what it was before. I can call but they arent there today.. I think if I remember right, the total was 245 or 254.. not sure on the rest..

Seems like every since Ive had problems with my thyroid.. last February.. when it was finally discovered.. I have had problems trying to keep it low.. but.. I guess the HDL and the Trigs are supposedly good.
I think Ive had thyroid problems for the past maybe 4 to 5 yrs.. for my cholesterol is up and down alot..
I have read where that can have something to do with it raising and lowering..
I am on Synthroid.. but I dont see where its helping me all that much..

on my test results.. it does say.. the thyroid is acceptable .. my blood count is.. my blood sugar. they didnt give me the numbers tho.. the blood chemistries are acceptable too..

with my readings. Im now trying to decide whether to stay with Atkins or switch to the beach diet.. Help.. how do I know which one to choose..?

my weight isnt really going down.. it goes down a few lbs and goes back up a few.. more or less staying the same..

My total cholesterol is 210, HDL 76, LDL 121, Triglycerides 65. My doctor, who is very supportive of low-carbing, said keep up the good work!

Oh, by the way, that was after four weeks of low-carbing.

Default cholesterol numbers

This is an answer to Brandywine's inquiry about cholesterol.
The formula is:
total cholesterol=hdl + ldl + (triglycerides/5)
Total cholesterol, hdl and triglycerides are measured from blood.Ldl is
calculated.
To LaCanita: Great numbers
To Kestrel: Great numbers also.
The simple truth about not worrying about cholesterol are thus:
1. Must studies relate high cholesterol to decreased life expectency.
I agree this is a contraverseal matter
2. If your cholesterol is very high, you cannot get reasonably priced life
insurance

My total is 161, HDL is 53 LDL 101 and triglycerides are 46.

They WERE total 220 and triglycerides 200 when I was on the 'healthy' diabetic diet.

Hi,Myagenda
LDL and HDL are good. You might need supplement for triglycerides.
900 mg per day of Pantethine(available at www.swansonvitamins.com)
should help.Fish oil or flaxseed oil pills(2 or 3 grams per day) would be an
alternative.Good luck.

I wish I could scream these out to non-believers. So, for all those ppl at work that are forever saying "omg I would die if I ate that everyday"...

10 months in...

(norm is in parenthesis)

Cholesterol 159 (<200)
Triglycerides 81 (<150)
LDL 86 (<130)
HDL 56 (>39)

I also had some thyroid tests done. Without meds for 10 months to treat my hypothyroidism I now find myself back in the norm. Only change is LCing and fish oil supplements... now that's something to chew on.
FT4 1.2 (0.8-1.8)
TSH 2.736 (0.35-5.50)

I just got my results my cholesterol was 226 and now it is 217.

This would be good news but....

my HDL was 63 and now it is 52

my LDL stayed the same and

triglycerides droped from149 to 148.

I don't think these results are very encouraging. I only eat olive oil, butter, etc and natural fats. What am I doing wrong.
