Default American moving to Canada... any words of lc wisdom?

Hello there! I am currently in the US and will most likely be moving on up by next year.

It's an 80% chance it will be BC (Vancouver area) if that helps at all.

Any words of lowcarb wisdom to impart? Anything I should stock up on here or wait to get there? Etc...

THANKS in advance for any help!!!!!!!

Welcome to Canada (almost) - Vancouver is wonderful - you can get the same things here as you can in the US -- maybe baking supplies would be best bought from the US come to think of it.

If you end up in Vancouver, you will be close enough to the border (Wa state) to run down for stuff you miss. And there will be items you miss, there always are!

<I moved here from Montreal years ago and STILL miss certain things>

Well crime happens everywhere and by sheer numbers heavily populated areas would have higher rates because there are more people! I live in a very big city now so I know the drill! I have also lived in VERY small towns were the crime was worse! Ofcourse more of it goes unreported in small towns!

Plus we would be in that area and most likely not living in town!

Oh and are the cheese and alcohol prices better or worse? You did not give much info on that!

And it is possible that my hubby would end up in one of the other major cities along the US border... I would prefer BC though.

I live in BC... I love it. You will find that organic and natural foods are very popular in the Vancouver and Island (where I live!) area. They are easy to come by, not too expensive, and there is a lot of selection for healthy foods. There are lots of little farm markets or huge grocery stores... the choice is yours. Almost every major grocery store I see has an excellent organic section.

I'm not sure whether alcohol is more expensive. I would think that it is, because some of our liquor stores are government controlled. But for awesome wine, check out the Kelowna area wine tours (interior BC) or the Cowichan Valley wine tours (Vancouver Island, BC).

I could go on and on... the food is just amazing here compared to what I've experienced in the 'States. And dining out is SO MUCH CHEAPER.

I moved to Canada from the US five years ago, and have never regretted it. I miss Target, but that's about all LOL.

LC package products and esoteric ingredients are harder to get easily, such as wheat protein isolate, erythritol, polydextrose, Chip's Chips, DaVinci Gourmet, not/Starch...but on the other hand we have much better-tasting Sugar Twin in brown and white formulations. Then again, that might have changed a bit by the time you get here...

But for the basics, good quality meats and veg, absolutely no problem...

Alcohol is more expensive, for sure, and you can NOT get it in any grocery store, not even beer & wine. We generally regulate that stuff a bit more tightly (except in Quebec).

Hi there, I am a present resident of Canada, and to what I see it is much easier to watch what you eat as there isn't as much options of junk food here. Hope that helps
