Last I heard, our labels (and the Americans', too), have
- Total Carbs xx g
-- Dietary Fiber xx g (usually indented)
and we still have to do the math ourselves. No net carbs on our labels.
So it's always Total Carbs minus Fiber Carbs for Net or Effective Carb Count. Only the European labels (which also have
100g sizes not
serving sizes for their nutritional information) have the Fiber counted separately from the Carbohydrates -- I guess that's why they don't say/infer Total Carbohydrates.
Maybe you were thinking of the rounding, which the Americans do and we used NOT to do but do now (crazy isn't it?). We USED to have all macronutrients to a 1/10th of a gram, but no longer required, since somewhere around 2003 I think.
And of course, all of this depends on the manufacturer doing the label correctly...which they MOSTLY do but not always.
Welcome to the wonderful world of LC ! (and ps: there's tons of this kind of info in the
New Members and LowCarbers subforum and the
Newbies' Questions subforum, too. Hope those links help you out some.
