Default Whey or Egg Protein shakes

Once upon a time, I did the 6-week program suggested by the Dr's Eades which included 2-weeks of home-made shakes (for the middle-aged middle)

At the time, I was making my shakes with whey protein - and that's what I have left in the cupboard (EAS 100% protein)

Before I go shopping, I would like pros and cons for whey versus egg protein as the basis for shakes. Is it personal preference? Allergies? Stalled weight loss?

Or is there any difference at all? Both are manufactured

For many years I've used whey protein, but recently all dairy started affecting me in a negative way, so I gave it up, at least on a temporary basis. My lower GI has stabilized since then, so it may reenter my diet at some point.

My favorite product is MET-Rx Metamyosyn Protein Plus Whey Isolate and Casein Protein Powder.

Since giving up dairy, I've started using Premium Collagen Peptide Powder from Grass Fed Beef - 1 LB Unflavored, Odorless and Easy to Mix Hydrolyzed Protein Peptides (16 oz, Beef Collagen). Brand is CollagenDNA. I froth it into my morning BPC.

Thanks Glenda. Are these products easily available - or are the on-line only?

I would guess that GNC would have them and/or your local heath food store. I just buy mine from amazon.com.

Dairy proteins inflame my whole body, so I would go for egg protein, but it is often cheaper to buy eggs than processed egg protein. The fine nature of protein powders makes them digest faster, leaving me hungry a couple of hours later. I'd rather eat my egg protein with the fat that comes naturally in an egg.

One caveat with collagen protein--it's okay as a supplement on top of dietary protein, but it lacks tryptophan, so no good for a program that gets most of its protein from shakes.

If I'm eating a lot of raw eggs, I'll usually make sure to take a biotin supplement, or at least a b vitamin, and take it not too close to eating them.

The egg protein is probably slower digesting than the whey. The marketing for casein versus whey protein supplements to bodybuilders sometimes emphasizes the difference in digestion and the effect that has on protein synthesis. Due to a rapid increase in serum amino acids, there's more of a spike in protein synthesis, and then return to baseline with whey, where casein is promoted as having a longer, if less elevated effect on protein synthesis.

I went shopping for an egg protein powder yesterday.
Supermarket only carried whey

Local health food store has gone out of business

Natural Foods had shelves of whey and egg protein choices
When I got home, I discovered the egg protein I bought was made exclusively from the whites

Since I always add an egg to my shakes anyway, this might not be an issue - but I will take more time reading labels next time
