Default a guy thing

the ladies, bless 'em, get to talk about TOM and so forth, so here's a man issue, i guess specifically middle-aged men thing - prostate. Anybody else notice a huge improvement since lc? When they had me doing lowfat it was really bad, having to get up 3 or 4 or more times a night. Then noticed once, when I went off the wagon and had fat, it got better. Now, several months into very lowcarb, no cheats, its just totally gone, sleep through the night, no prob.??? PS somebody once said that if you looked at the ads in the back of "mens" mags like Popular Mechanix, it is obvious that there are three things the average man wants, "get a better job" "catch more fish" and "stop getting up nights." Low-carbing hasn't changed my nocturnal "patterns". But I AM catching more fish, and bigger fish, too!

Default Not just a guy thing

Talked to my MD about it, and she said she'd heard other women patients say they urinated more on high sugar diets, which is basically the same thing in reverse.

Don't know the mechanism, though.

Alaskaman-

I've noticed the same thing, even drinking all this water I wonder: did you give up caffeine, by any chance?

I'd always blamed it on my BP pills, which contain a diuretic. I have no explanation,
unless all of those carbs acted like a big "sponge".

Not a guy, but read a lot about weight training etc. I've read that one thing which is important for testosterone and hormone levels is fat, even saturated fat. Could that have something to do with it?

Meg_S-

I think you're onto something!

Since my last post, I've started reading "Life Without Bread",
and there's a chapter in there on anabolic & catabolic hormones,
how they're balanced in our bodies, and how high carbs afffect
this balance.

My remark about carbs as a water sponge came from an old
Gold's Gym Bodybuilding book from the 70's. Competitors in
contests went low carb for a week or two to lose water
weight.

The hormone thing makes more sense in the long run, I think.
