Default I don't want to say "cure" but...

I went to the hospital today to have an ultrasound. It was just a checkup to see what's going on 'down there'. The radiologist was taking a look and when I told her I had PCOS. She said, "no you don't, your ovaries look fine".

I explained that I was diagnosed seven years ago with PCOS and she said that because my ovaries don't look polycystic now I never had it. She was a busy lady and I wasn't going to argue or tell her my entire medical history: the years of irregular periods, adult acne, excess weight and hairiness, the thousands of times I thought I was pregnant and wasn't and how as soon as I went low carb my periods became regular, the weight dropped off and my skin cleared up.

I don't care whether she believes me but I'm ecstatic that my years of low carbing have improved the health of my ovaries. To me that is really exciting and I just had to share the news!

(although, I have PCOS -- same symptoms you mentioned -- and no cysts, ever)

That said, after being on low carb now for a while, all the symptoms are leaving!

I'm glad to hear you're having similar success.

Fortunately I saw the ultrasound when I was diagnosed and my ovaries were a mess! They were covered in big cysts and my doctor at the time said it was quite bad. They definitely look different now and I guess if my periods are like clockwork (which they are!) it makes sense.

It continues to amaze me how many medical professionals don't believe that there's a lifestyle way to manage PCOS.

oh, so you know!!!!

this is amazing and wonderful!!!!!!

PCOS is an insulin thing, so ya, treat it as such... heck, even the ADA is recommending low carb now.

Unhappy

Yeah, it's weird huh? I remember when I was diagnosed I was given a pamphlet that explained that PCOS was caused by insulin blocking hormone receptors and constantly high levels of FCL or some kind of hormone (hey, I'm not doctor!) so it should be obvious that if you can manage your insulin and sort out your hormones that way you should get better. But I've never had a doctor who agreed with me on that

Great news, Kelly - congratulations! So many of us get caught up in the weightloss aspect of low-carb (me included) that we tend to forget the health benefits. Thanks for the reminder! -and you, too, Pennink - a couple of success stories!

Hi Kellycool

Oh that is my ttc (trying to conceive) stats. I have been trying to fall pregnant for a long time through Invitro and hormone therapy. But now for the 1st time my cycts are looking better, so I hope that by following the low carbing diet I can fall pregnant.

I just hate pcos

Take care

Oh wow! Good luck. I know two people with PCOS who have had kids (3 lovely healthy babies in total) by low carbing and getting their periods regular. It can be done.

I wish you all the luck in the world
