Isoflavones in soy can interfere with the thyroid gland's ability to take up iodine for making thyroid hormones.
Have a read through this article by Kathleen DesMaisons, author of Potatoes Not Prozac, and Your Last Diet .. Sorting Out the Soy Story. She provides sound unbiased research both for and against soy.
The recommendation is to limit your consumption of soy products to no more than one serving per day. So .. if you have a glass of soymilk for breakfast, you shouldn't have some other soy food again that same day. No tofu, tempeh, soy burger, tvp, soy ice cream, protein shakes etc that have soy in them.
