Default Endocrinologists, Internists or Family Practice?

I am thinking of changing from my Internal Medicine physician to an Endo - just wondering what speciality some of you use.

It's really a crap shoot because I've seen family doctors who were really good and endos who weren't.

One endo I saw pretty much said, "I don't bother treating anyone until their A1c is 8%, go away." So it was my family doctor, not an endo, who put me on Lantus when my fasting crept up to 120 and my post meal numbers over 140 while eating LC.

At that point, it became clear I wasn't a Type 2, as I was hypoing on tiny doses of Lantus. So the family doc sent me to another endo.

But since the usual treatment of diabetes given by all M.D.s is so lackadaisical and tolerates such terrible blood sugars and relies so hugely on mediocre drugs, my advice would be to do your own research and find a doctor who is willing to work with you and write you the prescriptions you need to try the things that might help. In my case, meal time insulin, which changed my life for the better. Despite the 5.7% A1c.
