Question comfort food

Hi everybody
Now that the weather is getting a bit of that fall touch here ,I was wondering what is your favorite comfort food when the weather gets cold?
Love to have some ideas and or recipes.

I just discovered that you can make a wonderful broth with a vegetable and a pumkin starter cubes (with no sugar added) and add onions and green apples. Onions and green apples are great diuretics and the broth is yummy before lunch or dinner and cuts your hunger.

Chili.

Beef stew. I make it in a tomato base with mushrooms.

Soup of the evening, beautiful soup...

  • Sausage soup with sauerkraut or cabbage and a big blob of sour cream
  • Tomato based meatball soup with cabbage - season the meatballs with bacon or prosciutto and parmesan cheese
  • Pureed cauliflower soup with cheddar, chunks of chicken and crumbled bacon
  • Chicken soup with chunks of daikon radish and tofu. I beat an egg in a bowl and pour in the soup. Finish off with a squeeze of lime, cilantro, chilies and green onion

I make a great vege soup with beef. it's a can of beef broth, a can of tomatoes, can of green beans, cabbage, brocolli and either hamburger or roast beef. put it in the slow cooker and cook all day. if you like it spicy, use some chili powder.

It was about 100 degrees today here in Texas. What's fall??

I'll answer that anyway because i grew up in Massachusetts!

My favorite low-carb comfort food would be sf hot cocoa. I have some unsweeted Girideli (I know I killed the spelling) cocoa powder (I think about a tablespoon) and mix it with about 2 tablespoons splenda and set it aside in a little bowl. Then I fill a mug with 1/3 cream and 2/3 water (ratio..not cups). I heat the fake milk concoction in the microwave until it is hot and then I add the cocoa/splenda mixture and stir it in really fast. If its too hot I add a little cream. It's also good topped with whipped cream.

Then theres cheesecake. Cheesecake is a good comfort food any season! Even though it was 100 degrees out and my a/c was screaming at me not to use the oven, i baked a lc coconut cheesecake today and it came out awesome!

See ya,
Michelle

When it gets cold, I like to cook corned beef & cabbage. Another favorite is a low carb version of coq au vin (French chicken stew with red wine).

Hello everyone!!
Wow what great ideas..making my mouth water. I have some really good Dutch Cocoa powder and some hot chacolate would be sinfully wonderful!..it is going to get cold tonight the 40's ,big change from last week when it topped 104!!! the highest temp. on record for Germany.
Love soups and stews that can cook all day..the best is the very last on the bottom after they have had time to really belnd flavors.
Thanks for all the great ideas.

Pattie

I love corned beef and cabbage. I've been toying around with the idea of mixing them with fake mashed potatoes (made out of cauliflower) in a sort of colcannon-like meal.

Oh, and here in Texas we have no fall....it's fell.

I really enjoy cooking a pot roast in the slow cooker during the cooler months - and I love the smell my apartment has after I do!

I also recently discovered "Quick Egg Soup" which is good if you're in a hurry (take a chicken boullion cube, dissolve in a pot of boiling water on the stove, add a bit of pepper, pinch of ginger, and then beat an egg or two and pour into the boiling water, and then I add a tiny bit more ginger and pepper to taste).

I love low-carb sheperd's pie, too.

Also, for me, there is almost nothing better during the fall/winter than a hot beverage. I enjoy sugar-free cider, hot herbal tea, and hot (diet) cocoa.
