Default Search Option Problems

I've missed so much by not reading for a long time, I wanted to look at what may have already been posted while I was AWOL. However, when I try to search the forums, it never works. It always tells me there's something wrong with my search term; too long, too short, etc.
For example, I would have thought "Ketone breath meters" would have worked, but it didn't.
Is it me, or the search?

It's the search. It's been broken for years (more than a decade?). When I first joined, it worked great. Now it's practically useless.

Yeah, it used to work for me, too. Ok. Thanks.

If you search with google outside of this website and add "forum.lowcarber.org" (without the quotes) to your search terms, it can often find what you're looking for

Actually ... the forum search function isn't "broken". It was turned off by the webmaster 7 yrs ago due to a bloated index filling up the server and causing daily crashes. After much discussion, our team decided this was a better option than what some other lowcarb forums chose to do, which was to delete over a decade's worth of posts in one big fat chop of the cyber-axe. (and despite doing so, unfortunately they ended up closing forever anyway). We're not perfect, but we're still here since October 2000

We realize the Google search option isn't ideal, but at least members who've been away for many years can return and find their old profile, journal and posting history intact .

Understand. But here's a suggestion: Either delete the search utility or at least put some information there so that people don't keep trying in vain to use it. Perhaps put the suggestions there for using Google that are mentioned above?

Can't do. In order to provide the Google search tool, the default vBulletin search page must remain as is. Sorry if that's not satisfactory for you.

By the way, there's an informational thread stuck near the top in our Comments/Suggestion Box section about this very topic ..Search function not working?. Been there for quite a while

Doreen

I was just trying to offer a suggestion to help reduce member frustration. Sorry that I stepped on a nerve. I'll try to remember that and refrain accordingly. Thanks for the explanation.
