Since our parents died, my DW and I spend a day in a nature preserve. We both like that. Sometimes the Everglades National Park even though it's early in the season, sometimes another wildlife preserve. It depends on the weather and how much rain we've had.
Here in South Florida, the drier it is, the more wildlife you can find. The 50 mile wide, 2 inch deep river called The Everglades dries up except for the deeper sloughs, and where the water is, the wildlife is.
So I spend the day with my all-time very best friend. I have her all to myself. We treasure the time together, 24/7 isn't enough. We are both musicians so I bring my digital Walkman with >10,000 songs on it, but we turn it down to talk a lot (we've been yakking to each other for 41 years)
I pack a ham sandwich in a low carb millet and flax flatbread, she packs a home made low carb tuna salad (turf for me, surf for her), a bottle of fizzy mineral water, a container of unsalted mixed nuts for light munching, and an Atkins Endulge bar for dessert.
But it's not the dinner, it's the day playing with my Sunshine that's important. It's a day without chores, without family politics, without sports, just the two of us being close. I like that.
Sorry for hijacking the thread so I'll try to get it back on.
Dementia runs in her family and insanity in mine. By following a low inflammatory diet (which includes low carb) we've both managed to avoid those (so far), we hardly every get sick, we aren't obese, and are enjoying life to it's fullest. Most people our age have serious health problems, and I suspect the SAD has a lot to do with that.
