Default Post goal - top level weight loss question

OK, so I've lost all my goal weight doing a paleo/primal/my own thing but I still want to fine tune it all. When I did Atkins, years ago, I came away with the impression that the more meat and fat you eat the more you will lose weight, and I guess that is true up to an extent. I know the key to weight loss is aiming as close for zero carbs that you can get. But when you plateau at that (or you can't get any closer to zero), is the next step to whittle down your total calories (even if it is protein and fat) ?

I've had good luck many times getting the weight loss going again by <adding> carbs.

Not necessarily.

There are a couple of 'diet' ideas that you could try.

The first of which is to try a PSMF (Protein-Sparing Modified Fast). Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fat Loss Handbook is the one I'd recommend. There are several quite good PSMF threads on the forum, which are also worth checking out:

Secondly, you could try carb cycling. I've followed Tom Venuto's carb cycling plan myself in the past and have found it effective.
Again, there are several carb cycling threads around the forum, the best of which is:

So glad I found this thread...
I was trying to find some info on the weightloss on paleo
when I added carbs or alcohol
on Thanksgiving I was not going to have any non paleo
I made substitutions for myself so I wouldn't be tempted
I did however allow myself wine
I rarely drink but I have lost 15 pounds and hadn't eaten all day
yadda yadda yadda I end up having 3 small glass of wine
and a piece of cherry pie (terrible I know) so the next morning
I expected to see a big gain 2 lbs or such
but I actually lost 3 pounds??!!
so I was thinking have I not been eating enough and this
carb bust kinda told my body to drop the weight or does
the alcohol somehow propel this loss
this has certainly not given me a reason to drink more haha
but I was plateauing on several days and I found that if I had a beer after dinner one night I lost more as well
Has this happened to anyone else?
I am new to Paleo (3 weeks) so still figuring it all out

Carb cycling works really well for me, I think. I don't do it intentionally but it seems that since I've gone from "ZC" to a more than occasional sweet potato indulgence the weight's been coming off a little faster.

Re the alcohol... I'm grain intolerant, and even beer causes me to rash now. While I used to really enjoy a glass of champagne or red wine, there is nothing in the world that stalls me like a serving of alcohol. Shows how we are all so very different.

might have to try that
i really didn't want to give up sweet potatoes
corn and white potatoes i could easily forego
i am really just doing paleo for weight loss
and if i do stall i might try eating a sweet potato occasionally
see if that helps

After 6 months at goal I find it still hard to believe that I can eat pretty much as much as I want and it doesn't seem to make a difference. The key is eating the right things.

I don't think there's much more to it than that. But in my opinion, each of us has to work to find out what those right things (for us) are.
