Default Sleep apnea caused by sugar?

I use the SleepyHead program to analyze my sleep with cpap.

It gives you terrific data. It made me curious I've been stressed and fighting off illness and eating lots of carbs. Last night I had 6 obstructive apnea and 2 hypopneas. About 3x as many as usual.

I found plenty of research showing sleep apnea raising blood sugar. Could the reverse be true that sugar (or blood sugar fluctuations)can cause apnea?

Typically when I eat sugar my heart pounds and I start breathing harder. I noticed on my respiration chart it was high for the first hour of sleep then took a big dip for an hour - several apneas occurred and then respiration went back up and stayed normal. The other apneas happened later in the night, probably during REM sleep which is normal for me.

How I wish the machine measured glucose simultaneously.

I think you're definitely on to something. I see my cpap report as something like an rpm readout - feedback on how I'm doing in other areas (especially stress).

I keep track of my daily cpap report and have found correlations between times of high stress and increased apneas per hour (check out the 19th!). I've also found when I do my meditations (not medications lol) I can lower this - keep them from spiking..., more or less.

Mask seal is another one I always check, and it shows me how restless or settled I was. More twisting and turning and the tube literally wraps around my body (or neck lol).

Last night was more typical with just 1 hypopnea. I was tested as reactive hypoglycemia that is why I think it affects my sleep. I certainly have symptoms when I'm awake.

The leak data is really confusing. My mask is 3.5 months old and it was super tight at first and I didn't sense any leaks. About a week ago I noticed leak sleeping on my side and put the clamp on. The machine messaged me about leaking that night. No units like yours it's giving rate instead.

I have mask seal is good so far. I don't toss and turn at all.

The 19th was a rough night for you!!

I was still sleeping very poorly with cpap until 10 days ago when I began adjusting pressure upward. The one night I had absolute 0 events was the night before I saw the sleep doc. He looked at the graph said your problem is resolved, not seeming to notice I'd changed the pressure myself.

My leak data started to inch up lately, and I recalled getting a new rig in the mail that I hadn't used yet. So I replaced the first one and so far the leaks are back to normal.

I was diagnosed several years ago and I knew I would not be able to tolerate the machine. (Many reasons. Just take my word for it. )

My soft palate is totally collapsed when I'm on my back, awake or asleep.

I have a bit in my mouth and 3 tennis balls in a pocket on the back of a sleep shirt to encourage me to stay on my side(s). Now that I'm at normal weight and always in ketosis, I'm certain that my apnea isn't about sugar.

My CPAP separates my report by midnight - so - let's take my Thursday report - it shows my sleep data from midnight to midnight.

Reason I mention this is the other morning, when I usually wake, pause the CPAP unit to use the restroom, it was after midnight and I glanced at the display as I took everything off, and it showed an hour of sleep, plus 10.9 events per hour!

I can't figure out what is happening as my normal is around 3 or less (sometimes a little more) apnea events per hour.

This Friday morning it took the 10.9 and averaged it into my sleep last night and came up to 7.1 - which is still very high. And the after midnight will upload here in a few hours, but I glanced and it was more than 7.

Wracking my brain, but I didn't have a high stress event, didn't have any major diet changes. Maybe my unit is acting up?

Any answers s9? Went out with my friend who she takes medication that deeply dulls her appetite, we go to our usual spot (bakery). Everything has gluten added to it. That night my flow limitations were sky high and I woke up with a sore throat.

I think it is your machine those are some crazy numbers.

In my original diagnosis I had no apnea, just UARS awakenings. Fat, out of shape now I have apnea. Motivated me to join the gym and lose weight.

It's a mystery. After that 7.1 (apneas per hour) spike last Thursday, it's slowly come down to 4.9, 3.9, then 4.6 last night / yesterday midnight to midnight.

I don't know if I have apnea, but I do know that dairy makes me snore.

I just looked at my apap data from last night. It pegged out at the max pressure of 17. My pressure has never even gone that high before.

Roommate burning incense all night. Woke up coughing and nose all stuffed up. Lungs still achy.

I drank 6 cups of coffee and still completely exhausted.

I was so tired at work yesterday I was dizzy. I need help and I don't know where to turn. I didn't get the last place I applied to move to because I can't get a reference from my landlord that doesn't speak English.
