We've lived here for 20 years & I've noticed less sunlight in the winter than in our first years here. Even summer isn't as hot. And shingles scares the heck out of me! One person who had that said it was one of the worst experiences in his life.

Thanks for the info - I'm upping my D.

D3 is pretty safe from all my readings. 100,000units a day is problematic. Seems like most who take "high" doses get their blood checked. My doc is comletely clueless, and I wonder WHY I have an HMO. I do most of the work. lol

All my immediate family members take 10,000 units from now until end of March, then reduce to 5000.

My attitude over taking supplements has changed a lot in recent years. I'm not a fan. I think we're too much at the mercy of junk science, greedy manufacturers, impure products, and contamination with all kinds of garbage. My philosophy now is to eat my supplements. Except Vit. D, which I do continue to supplement because I just don't get outside a whole lot.

I think we can benefit from supplments and food as sources.

If I lived in the land of my ancestors, then my fair skin was an asset, and much food came from fish from the sea. Fish was everyday fare. That would have been my source of vit D. I also learned my fathers fathers family came from an island off Italy, which means fish everyday, too.

It is not questionable when the product I use really makes me feel better. And for the first time I am looking forward to winter. For the first time I know I will not just endure it, but live it. All thanks to vitamin D supplements.

Magnesium. The world over is deficient, by 80%. U.S. by 40-6O%, depending on which study is quoted. We supplement because brain malfunctions are showing up in my family. Magnesium is a critical brain nutrient. And it is deficient in most agricultural land. I looked at adding it to my soils but realized taking a supplenent was far far cheaper than special amendment for 15 acres. Bet commercial producers only apply what provides a heavy crop of perfect veg and fruit.

(When my sheep needed foot dip, it was magnesium based so the used dip was dumped around the peach trees, which need a lot of magnesuim.)

Studies. I dont throw the baby out with the bath water. Especially NIH work. I use my science background, and look for what is reliable in fo. And do a bit of homework on supplement companies.

For example. Dr Amen highly recommended L - tyrosine to boost dopamine. I tested a bottle of capsules on myself with noticeable results. Then son trialed a bottle. Good effect. This was evidence to see a specialist to officially diagnose ADD. This was them same person that ciuld see the Aspergers but didnt see the ADD. I diagnosed my son. Doctor just put her stamp on it and opened the door to Ritalin, Concerta and other methylphenadate based treatments.

Zinc is also a big player. Requires eating liver and oysters daily to get RDA. Most people prefer pills, we do all three. Oysters are $1 each, liver everyday us boring, and zinc in a muti-vit is cheap.

PS. Commercial livestock get their vitamins and mimerals from " a pill" not their feed.

The "official" toxic upper limit of D3 is 10,000 IU/day. That change to the
upper limit was heavily fought for. Vitamin D3 experts wanted the limit lifted to 20,000 IU/day.

Vitamin D3 has been tested at 40,000 IU/day for 5 years with no negative effects.

My sister with heart disease takes 50,000 IU/day and has been taking that amount for about 10 years now.

I take 100-150,000 IU/week during winter. When I feel like I'm coming down with something I take 250,000 IU/day for 5 days.

A friend of mine's girlfriend had breast cancer. She was due for surgery in less that two months after diagnosis because they feared aggressive growth.

I recommended 100,000 IU/day until surgery. When she went for surgery, the tumor had shrunk and was encapsulated. It was removed with no problem.

I recommend anyone who is afraid of or aware of cancer in their family to maintain their vitamin D3 blood levels at 85-120 ng/mL.

Please be aware that while D3 is a powerful cancer fighter, if you allow your vitamin D3 levels to fall below optimum and cancer still exists it may rebound and become more aggressive.

Thanks Z. I learn more from this board than via oncologists. Still remember one and only meeting , a long hour plus meeting, no recommendations on prevention like vit D,only stop taking my 99mg potassium supplement, it might trigger a geart attack! Her stupidity was showing. Lo sakt and no salt sodium/ salt alternatives are FAR higher. She recommended eating a banana!

Vitamins function diffetently than minerals. Calcium is bone structure and a metabolite. We know in raising livestock the 2:1 ratio must be strictly followed AND the daily amount for every domestic livestock by age and species. We should be able to extrapolate from that data to recommend the human need.

Too much stabbing in the dark by those at the top.
