Default Kettlebells Anyone?

When I lost weight last year (before I stopped trying), I started out as many others do...on the treadmill. I was on the treadmill for 3 miles, then either got on the Arc Trainer, or the rowing machine for a half hour or so. I had cut my calories drastically and exercised 5-6 days a week but my weight loss was very slow going. About 1 month before I gave up, I started using kettlebells, and noticed that I dropped 6 lbs in a little over a week, where as when I was doing the other exercises, I lost about the same amount of weight in almost 3 weeks.

So this time on back with the kettlebells and I might throw in a bit of Zumba along the way. Does anyone else work out with Kettlebells? How has your results been?

I use kettlebells in some of my workouts ... mostly swings and clean and press moves worked into HIIT routines.

I like using them because they bring a different angle to the workout than dumbbells do. And I ALWAYS feel it the next day after doing sets of KB swings.

Not surprising. Running on a hamster wheel can really slow down your metabolism. Weight training is better. Just make sure you're getting plenty of recovery time.

I have a couple of DVDs using kettlebells. I don't like Turkish Getups or whatever they are called. I don't do them.

I have found about them recently and I have bought a few books.

I am planning on buying two kettlebells this week. One for me to train when I am leptin sensitive again and one for DBF. He prefers weight training but haven't done any since a long time. i hope he will like it...

I have a DVD that does Kettle Bell like moves but uses a 5 lb dumb bell. It isn't too bad.

Vicki, until I watched the video, I thought "Turkish get-ups" referred to the outfits they were wearing. Of course, that made me watch the video.

I watched parts of a couple of kettlebell workouts, and frankly I'm not even tempted! I notice one trainer had an adjustable kettlebell. For a home workout, you might not want to invest in increasing weights. I suppose the same could be said of dumbbells. But I'll only ever need one 20pounder, if ever!

Kettlebell looks a little hazardous, considering the motion. Of course, impeccable form is a requirement for all weight training, but I could foresee a shoulder separation for me with those kettlebell moves

I use my kettle-bells 4 x weekly. 5 lb, 10 lb and 15 lb. I generally don't use heavier than 15 lb kettle-bell.
I create my own combined cardio & strength training routines using kettle-bells & dumbbells.
Below is a list of the routines that I'm currently working on this upcoming week (posted via my journal)..every few weeks I change my routines, switching up the exercises, # of sets, reps, and or adjusting the weight. This just keep things interesting.
Kettle-bell swings, just by themselves, offers both strength & cardio benefits.
