CONGRATS!

Just a heads up....you may not feel the nausea until weeks 10 or 12. Every pregnancy is so different. It's hard to "plan" them.

Very happy for you!

I went lower carb with second pregnancy (ate fruit, rye bread, and dairy..no sugar, flour, rice, corn, limas, etc) and gained about half the weight of my first pregnancy (carb fest!).(60 pounds with baby one and 30 with baby two. Both babies weighed the same, but the second one was and is healthier and slimmer than the first. They are teenagers now. I was a sugar busters freak back in 93. After I delivered the second one I lost all the weight in about 6 weeks. Just sayin.....

Just to add my two cents worth...
I was low-carbing when I got pregnant and my OB/GYN actually advised me to stay low-carb throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
I had a great pregnancy, healthy baby, milk supply was great.
I stayed at around 40-50g carbs throughout the pregnancy, and only gained 28 lbs., which was off pretty quickly after delivery.
As a previous poster said, though, I know this is completely your decision to make. Everyone has different comfort levels.
Have you discussed this with your OB? Or your regular doctor?
For me, that's where I'd start.
Best wishes for a great pregnancy and healthy, happy baby!

I am looking forward to induction level carbs again. As you know Bella, I have struggled with my carb consumption throughout this pregnancy. One day I eat very well and others I splurge on things that ultimately make feel very foggy and unwell.

I admit, I am a carb addict. When I'm off them, I'm really really off them. I spent a year low carbing before I fell pregnant without cheating but once I began to allow myself to eat wholegrain bread and fruit, forget it. I find it very hard to moderate my carbs, hence having good days and bad days. Once I eat poorly, the rest of the day is off and I just continue.

You know what, at least I don't smoke or drink and I do eat a lot of healthy meat and veg, it's just that I'm also eating grains, rice and yes occasionally - the evil white sugar.

I applaud those who are able to stay relatively low carb throughout their whole pregnancy. This was my intention but unfortunatel I really fell off the low carb wagon.

I am grateful for the support I've been getting here from other pregnant women who are going through similar struggles and I hope people can be understanding of the choices and even the mistakes we make.

Thanks to everyone for sharing. Very interesting to read about the differences in weight gain when with lower carb vs carb fest in pregnancy. I know i am in the latter group and it does worry me in terms of amount of gain (going fast) and risk of diabetes, but i am a sugar addict too and have been indulging. The higher starch consumption doesn'T bother me; do mostly only buy whole grains at home, but then eat lots of white out. It'S more the sugary desserts that really worry me. SIgh. Well, today i can only feel happy as i got my amnio results that all is well!!! What a high!

Good luck everyone with your choices and thanks for sharing your experiences.

Latté

That's fantastic news Latte. I am really happy for you. Now you can get on with enjoying your pregnancy without the added stress of the unknown.
