Default Examples of carbs for each stage

I'm reading Lyle McDonald's book and trying to figure out exactly what carbs I should eat during each part of the carb-up.

If I'm just missing it, can somebody please point me to it?

I know he talks about some people that basically just binge on the weekend and others follow the plan more faithfully. I certainly would not be able to do the former or I'll probably fall totally off the wagon.

In the copy of the book I have, I believe there is a typo. At one point, he says starches, breads, potatoes, etc. are complex carbs and at another place, if I read it right, refers to them when he is saying to use simple carbs.

Specifically, I'm just looking for some examples of good carbs for Friday pm and Saturday.

Also, can somebody point me to some sort of simple (for the simple-minded) source for determining whether a specific food is low or high GI?

I'm sure after another reading of that book, I'll absorb a little more and be able to determine the difference between fructose and glucose and so forth, but at the moment it eludes me.

Can somebody tell me why they make the most complicated plan the one for jocks? No carbs, I can understand. The rest...?

With apologies to anybody with the inclination toward athletics but lacking a sense of humor. I've found that the best way to help myself through changing my WOL is to laugh at myself. And I evidently give myself plenty of opportunity.

I usually find that it is best to use high GI carbs early in the carb-up phase (read: sugar, glucose, etc. ... foods with a Glycemic Index that is high like over 75, etc.)

In the second day, I start to switch to a mix of lower GI carbs (sweet potatoes, a little pasts, etc.)

If you want to see what foods measure on the GI scale, Rick Mendosa has a pretty complete list at his site:

http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm

If you scroll halfway down the page, you will eventually come to the GI-based list, which will list foods in order of their GI rating, sorted low-to-high.

This should give you an idea.

... And they make the most complicated plan for jocks so that we can prove that jocks have brains too ... LOL.

Thanks Trainerdan.

I worked out like nobody's business on Friday, then tried to keep it fairly simple on the carbs this weekend.

Feels good to "restock the shelves."

As of Monday a.m. I'm not having any cravings, so this plan may work for me.
