Default still confused about PECC/new custom foods

I have trouble adding new custom foods and am looking for a simple explanation. I get that there are 'hidden carbs" in many diet foods. But I can't figure out how to add one. Where do you list the sugar alcohols? It seems they should be deducted, no? Without deducting those, I can't make the numbers balance. OK, now my confession, When I'm stuck, I just change the calories to suit and I know that's not right. (So, admit it, how many other people are doing that?)

Subtracting sugar alcohols can be done through the PECC field. Simply enter the carbs without subtraction, and enter the subtracted value in the PECC field, and the sugar alcohol in the sugar alcohol field.
