Question Anyone in the far orth?

Hi everyone! I just found this website recently, and this forum only today-o.k., so I'm a bit slow. I am on Atkins (11 days now), was on C.A.D. (I'm a carboholic-that hour was too much for me!), and am feeling great.

However, living up here in the frozen north (Lossiemouth, near Elgin, 40-ish miles east of Inverness), I feel a bit isolated surrounded by the low-carb mafia. I mean ANYbody who is on a diet/health plan/whatever, is low-fat/high-carbing it. I confess that I am not a Scot by birth; I came over from America in 1982, but I hope you won't hold that against me!

Stil, I have you now, don't I

I hope to catch up onthe threads in the next few days to see what's happening on this side of the big water.

Thumbs up Welcome

Welcome to the Forum Lossiebeth. I've been to Fores - beautiful part of the country. I was quite envious of the peaceful, quiet lifestyle and pace of life of the people there !

Induction is nearly over. You are doing well. Yes I know what you mean by those high-carbers and their attitude to lowcarbing! But as you say: you have us now. There's certainly a whole community of supportive people here.

Take care.

Hi Lossiebeth and welcome!
You'll find this forum very helpful - there's lots of info and support and everyone is friendly.
I'm doing Atkins too and I'm also transplanted, from Vancouver Canada. Been here (UK) since 1991, Manchester since 1995.
I know what you mean about the low-carb mafia. They're everywhere!
Hang in there and catch you later!
Sandra

Smile Still Alone In the far North

It probably would have helped with my post if I had spelled NORTH right in the subject title!

I SO appreciate the replies, but see that I am still a lone lo-carber up here. That bloody porridge sure has a firm grip! Luckily for me, I seem to have a sensitivity to oats. They make me HUNGRY! Give me the biggest bowl of prridge imaginable, and half-an-hour later, I'm ready to chew my own leg off I'm so hungry. Aren't carbs wonderful?

I know there must be more of us up north, but my being American probably puts folk off Have you ever had any trouble with being North American, Sandra? Then again, up here anyway, Canadians tend to be quite well thought of, but we (Americans, not ME personally) brought nuclear submarines to the country, all wear tartan, and continuously talk abut how "quaint" everything is-wow, now *I* don't even like Americans!

Yes, Fiona, Forres is a lovely place. I'm about 10 miles form there.

2 weeks today and 9 pounds down. I like Atkins.
