Default Question of the week: As a maintainer, how often do you weigh yourself?

According to The National Weight Control Registry, 75% of successful maintainers weigh themselves at least once a week, 44% weigh daily. Also, in the 1999 study Behavioral strategies of individuals who have maintained long-term weight losses, researchers found that weight-loss maintainers who had lost an average of 37 pounds and maintained it for over 7 years used the behavioral strategy of greater frequency of self-weighing than either of the controls. Another study from 2001, Successful weight loss maintenance found that successful long-term weight loss maintainers again share common behavioral strategies, including frequent self-monitoring of body weight.

So, as a maintainer, how often do you weigh yourself?

Although I’m more concerned with how I look and how my clothes feel on me, I do weigh myself on a daily basis. I find that it’s a great tool not only for keeping me accountable, but also to monitor how different foods and types of exercise can affect me, and track any changes in my body that might take my weight a little higher due to circumstances beyond my control (TOM etc).

I am quite used to seeing the daily fluctuations, so don’t have any problems with those. I know that any gains are usually due to water weight and not anything more sinister. However, the one number that I do take notice of is the scale number once a week, every Saturday morning. As long as it stays more or less the same every week, then I’m happy. If it doesn't, then I know I need to do something about it.

Mostly daily....some days I don't want to deal with it but those are few and far between. I've learned my lesson!
Not weighing and living in denial is just too damaging for me now. So, I weigh. Regularly!!

Usually daily, occasionally I skip a day or two. I find that skipping my weigh-in means something... I'm afraid I'm gaining. If I'm going off-plan too much I tend to not weigh. That's a very, very bad combination!

Daily, five-six times. I know I'm crazy, but I must check how some foods works on my body. Acting like this, helps me to stay calm and I can also say if the next day my weigh will be up or down. Tomorrow I know that I'll gain something because I've eated many seitan for lunch.

Hi and welcome to the Maintainers section of this site.

I hope that you will be able to use all that weighing info when you too, are in maintenance.
Me? I'd go crazy weighing that many times per day.

Daily for me. Im ok with the flucuations. They don't rule my day like they used to when I was actively losing. I like to see how certain foods, or mainly for me the overeating, makes the scale the next day. I think, for me, that is my key to maintaining. If I get more than I want to be, I know it's time to cut back.

When I weigh myself daily my weight is stable, when I stop weighing myself daily my weight increases.

Me? I'd go crazy weighing that many times per day.

Every month I have almost 21 days of maintenance after the fasting with protein powder. I make the low carb maint. (50 gr) because it's the only one that can help my body to not gain weigh.
When my journey to a normal BMI will arrive, I hope to be so strong, mentally above all, to continue an healthy woe.

Thanks for sharing how you're losing your weight.

When we talk about maintenance, it is in regards to how we maintain our losses after we reach our goal weight.

Absolutely daily, most days twice. First thing in the morning, and right before bed. The only time I don't weigh is when I am traveling and do not have access to a scale.
