Question Eating after workout?

Hi all,

I'm doing great, Day 9 for me. I have a question. I've been working out every morning on an empty stomach, and then having a Myoplex shake right after that as my first meal. I've been reading around and some things say to wait an hour after working out before eating. Which is best? I thought you needed those carbs after working out. I want to do it right!

I shouldn't have weighed but I did and I am down 6 pounds. I know it's probably a lot of water, but I'm still encouraged. And hey, I waited a long time to weigh---I'm a scale junkie who usually weighs once a day or more. It's a habit I'm trying to kick!

I've been sticking to just one shake a day and the rest whole food. A couple of days I've had the Myoplex low carb bars if I was in the car and it was time to eat. The good thing is, they don't taste SO good to me that I would want them all the time. They help me get by in a pinch but I definitely don't eat them every day.

Last week I was obsessive and counted every calorie and protein and carb and fat gram, this week I'm letting up a bit and going by portions, just to see what works for me. I found I was spending practically every waking moment making calculations. I need some time to do other stuff! LOL

Well, just wanted to check in. I feel great and can't believe I've made it so far, especially getting up early every morning to work out. The sad thing is, Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend so it won't be so wonderfully bright out at 6:30 when I wake up. That has helped a lot. Oh well, maybe my body will be used to it and just automatically get up.

Hope you all have a great day and are doing well!

Hi there......

The rule of thumb is to EAT WITHIN 45 minutes of a weight lifting workout and to WAIT at least one hour after cardio. The theory is that you need the protein for the muscles after lifting but you want to give yourself an hour of fat burning time after cardio.

You may even find more detailed information in the stickey called LC and BFL - Tips and Hints, in the BFL Forum.

Thank you! That makes more sense to me. I'll give it a try!

Default A Protein shake...

I have a little protein shake with a tablespoon of sugar and 5 grams of Creatin Monohydrate right after a workout. It's usually a 3 scoop serving so it hits my protein needs and the sugar gives me the carb boost to speed the creatine on its merry way.
