Hi Gals,
Jaz---Hope you had a great day w/the little boy and brand new red bike from GiGi. That is a memory he won't forget.
Hope you are planning a trip to the unemployment office soon to set up an appeal. Or do you just have to fill something out and then wait for them to contact you? In any case, I'd get it rolling asap. And yeah if they offer you pro bono lawyer help, take it. Once your case is submitted I think it rolls along pretty fast. I get a lot of my info from a pal's experience, she was denied because they had accused her of shop lifting from the department store she worked for. Long story and misunderstanding, but suffice to say she got her unemployment. It was many years ago, so hoping things haven't changed to much or are too different where you live. Still and again, keep in mind that most people trying to collect have been fired and that companies regularly deny these days because some people don't fight it! That's a savings for that company and well worth their time to show up at a hearing.
Lori---Hubby's cousin started working at Barnes and Nobel when he was 50 and now he's been there 8 years. He loves it. When I visit our nearby BN there are a fair amount of middle aged and senior people working there. Fingers crossed for you. This is a great time to look for a part time job, everyone is looking to staff up for the holidays. Fun time to work there too.
Trig---It's that not being hungry a lot of the time part of LC that is so great when one is in the zone. I love that part. Such a relief to not be interested in or thinking about food. You're there girl! Not asking for number of where you're at now, but wondering if you have a goal as to where you'd like to end up.
Nic---
Seems you've been there a week now? Is the trip drawing to a close?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh man gals, it's nasty weather here. Cold and windy. Was supposed to meet a colleague for lunch today and was thrilled to the gills when she canceled. Ran a couple quick bone chilling errands and have been home and cozy since noon.
I have a very big styling day tomorrow so I'm going to tuck in early w/book and hope I fall asleep on the earlier side as I have to be up super early. When I have an early call I tend to worry about it in my sleep on an off all night. Keep waking up to look at the clock, even though my alarm is set. If you've ever forgotten to set your alarm just once, or thought you did, or got the switch wrong, the fear of missing an appointment is always with you. And this is a big one for all kinds of political reasons.
On plan today. Haven't been able to OMAD in the last couple of days. I never do it if I feel real hunger---registers as light headed and/or headachy for me. But I've kept it to more of a LC snack to solve that problem.
Although it is cold and windy outside, it is SO freaking cozy inside at our house. Hubby is making that black soybean/tomato/onion/mozzarella cheese dish I was telling y'all about. Man, it is so yummy and the smells are wafting from the kitchen out here to our living room. Hubby is singing his heart out, loud and proud, along w/Johnny Rivers as he cooks---he ALWAYS cooks to music on our kitchen CD player---- as I am cozy w/my gals here.
Haha. In fact, I just decided I'm so cozy and happy chatting here and dinner is at least a half hour away, I'm going to try to repeat some of the stuff I lost on that post, because I do kind of like to talk about this girly stuff, which is why I started the convo.
To start out with, I'm a cheap date when it comes to lotions and potions. Have read endless articles by dermos and they all say the same thing. More expensive skin products are no different in their success/productivity than the ones you buy at Walgreens. You are paying for the packaging and the brand. Was a time I tried out the more expensive products, but found what the dermos said to be true.
This goes for cosmetics for me too. So I basically do all my shopping at Walgreens. And hey, those gals behind the counter are great there. Having gotten to know some of them I've found out they all go to Walgreen's "Beauty Boot Camp" and they are darn knowledgeable about their products, and there are a lot of lines and products. Plenty good enough for me.
For instance, I use good old fashioned Ponds on my face, neck, hands and elbows about a half hour before I go to bed every night---to give time to soak in before I hit the pillow. 5.99 for a jar that lasts and lasts. I was delighted to read in a book I recently finished, "The Fabulous Bouvier Sisters," about Jackie and her sister Lee, that Jackie slathered herself every night from head to toe in Ponds. LOL. And this woman could have afforded the more expensive stuff.
But I know what she liked about good old Ponds. Use it conservatively and it soaks in relatively fast and sucks up all the dry in your skin just like that.
The one product I do spend a bit more money on, that I love and HIGHLY rec is Loreal's Age Perfect Rosy tone skin tint. It is predominantly a moisturizer. This is what I use in the morning, or before I go out for the night. It is light and whippy and while it is NOT a foundation or even close to it, it gives just a delightful amount of glow to the skin. Particularly in the winter when my skin seems to have green undertones.
It's about $18, and I so recommend trying it out. My jars of it last me a good long time, doesn't take much, but I can really see the difference in terms of that slight tint.
Also, want to say that one doesn't have to spend a lot on a facial either. There are so many good and reasonable exfoliation skin masks out there. I have my faves, but they all work and don't cost much. Removing the layer of dead skin cells from our face really makes a difference.
Do any of you gals have a school of cosmetology near you? Because we have one here in my city and my gal pals and I go on their BOGO deals. $11 for over an hour facial that includes your neck, shoulders and upper chest. It is heaven with it's fresh smells and zen music. Still it is like all facials basically a moisture/exfoliation thing. It is a luxury beyond belief for $11. These students are doing this as part of their final exams in getting their certificates, so we watch the calender for when that happens.
Next step up from just products---the use of botox or Juvederm. I had Botox once in my forehead. It was quick and painless and make a big difference. But it is not permanent. I'd say mine lasted somewhere between 6 and 8 months.
Since I was lucky to be invited to a "botox/juvederm party" I got a good deal on it. About $200, for 6 to 8 months of my forehead looking a lot better. Amortize that and you're looking at about 3O dollars a month.
Botox is for everything above your eyes, and Juvederm is for everything below you eyes, and it is more expensive, but not by undoable amounts. It's just that it's temporary. I have seen it done really well, and I have seen it overdone---the latter mostly from celebrities who should know better, or at least have doctors who tell them better.
Anywho, outside of over the counter solutions, and the botox and Juvederm, I just want to get my eyes done. I really do. First of all because I think I'll need them done for better peripheral sight, which is why Medicare will pays for it, and also because my mom told me a long time ago, "if you do nothing else, do your eyes, they are beautiful." SIGH, oh mom. I just have to work up the courage to submit myself to the white coats to get it done. But I'm feeling it coming closer to being a reality.
And one last thing---my super glam mom taught me a lot about this. She had more work done than I ever will. But she was always an artist too, and everything she had done looked natural and healthy on her. She NEVER took it too far.
She taught me that really, there is nothing like a bit of surgery for real results. That was all more important to her than it is to me. But she did teach me a lot.
Bottom line, imo---we can all buy the beauty products we believe in, from moisturizers to exfoliators to cosmetics. And they WILL ALL help. But there is NOTHING that's going to erase certain agin things better than surgery.
For instance, if you want to lose your soft jaw line and saggy chin, there is no product other than surgery. And, a mini lift can solve a lot of this.Good news is these days they do it in a way that it also does not demand a ton of recovery---ie, when can I go out w/out looking like a swollen up freak?
So, just rambling on a subject I brought up, tried to talk about a bit ago and got erased.
For me, I'm just going to try to get up the courage to do my eyes. My mom was right about that. They are my best feature, and beyond vanity, should I be so blessed to live long enough, I'm going to have to deal w/them from a functional stand point.
So there. On and on I went. And understand I might have missed the minute for us to all talk about this. But I was just determine to post what I tried to a day or so ago.
