Default Great. New ideas appreciated

I'll look them up. I found that with the US laws of supplement being classified as food and unregulated it's hard to find something to trust. I will check those againts http://www.consumerlab.com/ I do hope they list those Trying to find ones that are quality tested and not a billion dollars is hard

While I was active on Atkin's, and following it like the law, I got my labs done. I get my blood draws every 3-4 months for diabetes and thyroid. They also did a nutrition panel, and my iron was crirically HIGH. They told me on the phone, "You need to cut back on the green leafy vegetables."

I never ate more veggies in my life than when I was on Atkin's.

Anyway, I started to have severe troubles with my Metformin. Even with my low hgba1c, and glucose well in control, they kept me on Metformin. I was getting sicker and sicker from it, severe gastritis, constant diarrhea. I got very ill. They told me I needed to eat bread...

Adding bread back to my diet, mainly whole grains, but occasionally some white, and I got severely ill. I could no longer take the Metformin without getting severely ill within 8-12 hours of taking one pill. It then took 3 days to a week to recover. After being labeled non-compliant, I was put on Onglyza which made me have chronic pancreatitis attacks and nearly constant pancreatic pain. I was told my pancreas was fine, however, my labs were now critically low. My iron was only two points above critical, my D2 and D3 were so low they were unmeasureable, my folic acid was low, and B12 was nearly critical.

I was put on Vitamin D2 replacement at 50 thousand units a week. I took B12, Folic acid, Vitamin C, and Centrum Silver. Only after being off the Onglyza 1 and 1/2 months have my labs, after a year of replacement therapy, returned to normal. The chronic pancreatitis disappeared, and the abdominal pain is resolving slowly.

Back on Atkin's, though I have been somewhat low carb conscious all along, I have removed wheat and all wheat products, and occasional sugar totally.

I am on day 4 now of induction, and already feeling like a new person, though I am still terrified to eat. When I do eat, it is Atkin's induction only.

Going to stay on the vitamins, which I re-started today after a coupke of months hiatus. Waiting on my lab results, which she said she would check my liver and pancreatic enzymes.

May be interesting!

Atkins is associated with a higher protein level. If you are normally low in iron, it's ok to take a multi with iron, but if you generally have a healthy iron level before starting low carb, the increase in iron from your multi can cause constipation.

I use Centrum silver-has a broad spectrum of vitamins and no iron. I prefer the chewable to the capsule.

I use Trader Joe's Multi-Vitamin and Mineral, No Iron. Dr Westman suggested any generic equivilent of Centrum Silver was fine, and this one is easy to buy since it is where I shop for groceries. It is an option to add Fish oil, and I buy Trader Joe's Odorless Omega3.

I just ordered a skin and coat vitamin without iron (Vitacost's label) because my hair is a mess still nearly a year out from the Big Shed related to health stuff.

I take Source Naturals, Life Force Multiple, No Iron. I usually get it from either iHerb or my local health food store. It's never made me hungry.
