Default Night Eating Syndrome?

Hello peeps!

has anyone else here experienced Night Eating Syndrome? It's basically a disorder where you wake up in the middle of the night and stuff your face... generally with crap, of course... I've struggled with it for years, and needless to say it's messed up my LC progress quite a bit... I thought I was just weird until recently discovering that 'NES' is a real thing and quite a few people have the same problem. I found a great Facebook group that's helping me with it, but would love to know if there are any other Night Eating sufferers here??

Hugs,
Lucas

Hey, Lucas, welcome. I don't have this issue, but I've heard about it and I wonder when you state that your plan is "Primal," what that actually means. If you're not eating the right things, if you're still insulin resistant, and if lack of calories (the right quantity of food) during daytime hours could be causing the hunger later in the night. From my own experience being fat adapted, I eat two meals a day with ample healthy fats, good protein, and some salad greens, and I couldn't eat a thing after my last meal of the day which is usually between 5:30 and 6:30pm.

Review what you consume and you just might find things that are causing this condition, eliminate any suspects, and move forward. Good luck.

My husband has this. He's tried medications, a CPAP to assist his breathing so he won't half-wake and get up, but it still happens. He's sort of there but not there. I'll ask him something and he'll answer me with nonsense or sometimes he'll remember part of what happened when he was night eating and sleep walking but not all of it.

What does your doctor say?

As I understand it, this has to do with unstable blood sugar. One article I read said they had this when they were first trying to “switch engines” from sugar burning to carb burning.

Of course, as OP pointed out, it is hard to get a good fat burning engine going when this happens. Because it is never roast beef, is it?

Also, there’s something about the sleep drug Ambien that will trigger this syndrome in MANY of the people who take it.
