Default Too Much Vitamin A, Pregnant, REALLY Scared

I just got a positive yesterday {Tuesday}. I am 12 DPO. I had 4 pieces of liver for dinner Monday and again for lunch Tuesday. I did not know liver was so crazy high in Vitamin A. I am taking a Prenatal Vitamin that contains 50% RDA! I am assuming that is RDA for pregnant woman. I already lost my last pregnancy. I don't want to lose this one! I did Brewer's Diet when pregnant with my son. In there it suggests eating liver. Granted I over did it, but never dreamed that an allowed foood would be dangerous! And pretty much everything contains Vitamin A or is fortified with it. So why does a Prenatal Vitamin contain 50% RDA???? I want to cry. I was so happy yesterday and now I've screwed it all up. I need it to be tomorrow so I can call my OB/GYN! Someone tell me my baby will be alright. That she/he is still too small to be adveresly affected.

i dont fully agree with this article~i think their vite a recommendation is too high. However i do agree that there is a difference between synthetic and natural vite a and thought you might like to see a different perspective. Organ meats are very healthful and i dont hesitate to eat liver~it's also a great source of iron.

I've also read that maternal transfer of nutrients doesnt really begin until around 8dpo~in the beginning the embryo is living off of its yolk sac. It protects the baby in the first few days anyways from things like mom having a few drinks before she knows she's pregnant...

Congratulations by the way!!! There are a few of us preggos around

Thanx Walnut the article did help shed a some light on whats what here.

I did talk to my doctor and she said that beta carotene is not the one to worry about. Its the palomate {sp?} one that should be of concern. My prenantal contains beta carotene in it. The worry lies in if I overdosed on vitamin tablets. Not on food. And since I was craving it I obviously needed it. She is a strong believer that cravings are caused by our bodies being low in something.

i agree that cravings often point at a nutritional deficit, just that sometimes the specific food we crave isnt always the best place to get it. Ie craving ice cream=calcium deficit but it's probably better to get it from salmon bones or a calcium citrate supplement.

sounds like you have a good doc. glad that things worked out
