Default Articles on Paleo child :)

Hi everyone

I've come across nice reads on the net and happy to share:

http://theprimalparent.com/2011/03/...from-pregnancy/
Look at little cutie's teeth!!!!! Thats what Weston Price was always talking about once you ditch grains and junk.

http://hawaiianlibertarian.blogspot...paleo-baby.html

I'm in my 6th month now, and noticed huuuge increase in appetite..... Gained 6 pounds and getting anxious to grow fatter. And yet I eat too much chocolate, know its not good, but cant stop... So now trying to call common sense, go paleo, doing it for both me and our baby girl

The article was great! I have also wondered if that would be the way to go and to raise my children that way. I've cut them back drasticly on the junk and HC and I believe they are healthier. I would love to get pregnant, but had my tubes tied years ago, but if it should happen, it will be a paleo diet for us both.

I've read the "Paleo Baby" blog before and loved it. I'm in my 16th week of pregnancy, and I lost 12 pounds in my first trimester and had NO morning sickness, no soreness, no nausea, no headaches...NONE of the major negative symptoms most women have, within 1 week of focusing on eating low carb and high fat (and skipping soy and artificial sweeteners). I wouldn't say I was completely "paleo," as I still eat some prepared foods and dairy and whatnot, but going low in carbs (especially eliminating grains) made my first trimester a breeze.

Now I'm a bit into my second trimester, and I can only blame my laziness and opting for convenience over health, but I've fallen off the wagon HARD. I'm now battling fatigue daily and have been having some bouts of diziness/lightheadedness, and I've regained about 4.5 pounds of what I'd initially lost. I NEED to get back on track.

Not quite sure that I have my head wrapped around the Paleo WOE. I gather that it's LC, but with more veggies, less dairy, and raw as much as possible?? It's amazing that she only gained 13 pounds for her entire pregnancy. And, her daughter looks so adorable and healthy.

I NEED to get back on track too. Still swimming with back and forth decisions.

Eriksgirl, that's the way our ancestors ate. If you can hunt it, pluck it, then eat it No processed food, no dairy (butter is okay, some eat femented dairy too), no sugar, no grains. Meats +veggies, limitied fruits, better berries. And remember good saturated fats: fatty cuts of meat, coconut oil, butter

Probably we shoud head(re)start together and compare notes?

Thanks for clarifying that, Eos. It sounds a lot like the WOE that I am currently doing except I do eat Greek yogurt. Other than that, I stick to meats (cooked, lol), raw veggies, no fruit, butter. I finally actually threw my scale out so I couldn't weigh myself, so I don't know how I'm doing weight-wise. However, I feel great!! I'm eating based on my hunger and not on the number on the scale. So, I have way more energy.

There are different definitions of paleo and primal depending on what resource you read. Some include butter, some don't; some include dairy, some don't; some include beans, some don't; some include bacon, some don't...if someone asked me to give up cheese, I'd have a hearty laugh in their face :P I just basically try to stay low in carbs and high in fat while avoiding artificial sweeteners and frankenfoods. My result is essentially meats, cheeses, eggs, non-starchy veggies, nuts, and some spices and condiments (canola or safflower mayo, oils, heavy whipping cream, coconut milk, almond milk, etc.). And I've been eating more fruit and dark chocolate during pregnancy to help with some cravings for junk (though they're probably helping to CAUSE some of those cravings...).

That's a great article, Eos. I've reached the point in my pregnancy where I'm thinking about BF'ing and how this WOE will impact that.

Hope everyone is doing well. Not much new here. That's a good thing though!! lol

Paleo is no grains, no dairy, basically anything people would have eaten before agriculture came along 10,000 years ago. There's nothing about eating things raw though. People get the raw food movement and paleo confused.

Usually people do paleo on a continuum of strictness. I call mine "mostly paleo".

I wonder when they started cooking meat? I read somewhere years ago that cooking the meat made it easier to digest and there were less tummy problems. I wonder what the science behind that says?

Thanks for clearing that up. LOL I was GREATLY admiring the pregnant women who could eat meat raw. I would prolly starve to death first.
