Default Gumbo File / Ground Sassafras leaves

I used to use Gumbo File as a thickening agent before Atkins. I stopped because I cannot determine the amount of carbs it has. I have to assume it is pretty low, but if I don't know for sure, I don't eat it. I searched around the Internet and didn't find any usable information. The only things I found showed zero carbs, but the serving size was too small to be significant.

It's a good thickener and has an interestnig flavor. I'd like to be able to use it again. Can anyone figure out what the real carb count is for this stuff? Thanks!

Is there any information on the label to help you get in touch with the manufacturer?

I imagine that you could still use it without worry since it's only the dried and ground leaves of sassafras.

I did find something interesting about it from this website:

http://www.formulamaster.com/research.htm#sassafras

Sassafras

Sassafras stimulates the action of the liver to clear toxins from the system, making a good tonic especially after childbirth. It has been used as a pain reliever and also to treat venereal diseases. The Indians used an infusion of Sassafras roots to bring down a fever. Sassafras and Burdock are excellent as an appetite-control hormone tonic.
