$0.40 for a dozen eggs???

I know I live in a pretty bourgeois area and I only ever buy the locally sourced, free-range, happy-hen eggs, but it cost me £5.50 for a 12 large eggs a week ago! Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy to pay that for produce that comes from humanely raised animals, so I'm not complaining about the cost. I just can't imagine what kind of huge, industrial size battery farm would have to be producing each day, in order to sell a dozen eggs for 40 cents!!!

I'm guessing the member was referring to a special sale as she specifically stated that the price was "today". I've often seen grocery stores - upscale and discount alike - will have 1 or 2 day only sales for select items that are deeply discounted. These are known as "loss leaders" .. shoppers are lured into the store by the sale item(s) but almost always end up making other more expensive purchases. Win-win. Customer gets cheap eggs, store recoups losses by selling lots of bacon and sausages to go with those eggs.
