I'm strict myself, chinese spare ribs are kinda sweet tasting, and usually made with honey, sugar, and hoisen sauce, which is also made of sugar. Dunno if 'cooking off' counts or really reduces the sugary insulin reaction. But for me if it is kinda sweet tasting, it'll probably make me want more sweet tasting things...
I love them too, especially the boneless ones. I stay away from them, just looking at the color thats on them makes me think there are more carbs to it then its worth. Don't think ONE bite would hurt but who can stop at one bite ?
BBQ sauces can have like 30 something net gram sof carbs per tablespoon. And those don't cook off, the sugar carmalizes, hence the beautiful color.
I don't know the count on spareribs. On General Tsao Chicken I was looking at the count per serving was 88g carbs with 45g sugar. That was enough to scare me far away.
While we're on the subject of Chinese Food...how about Egg Foo Young (without the gravy). I tried searching the web for any kind nutritional info on it, but can't find anything. A friend of mine said that he eats it all the time when he's on Atkins and he loses. Help!!!

I know it's not the same, but Steel makes a sf/splenda sweetened Hoisin sauce, and perhaps you could try to recreate Chinese spareribs at home?
I actually have a bottle of it, but haven't been quite sure what to do with it....someone gave me a gift certificate to a posh food store, and the Steel's stuff was about all I could figure out to buy.
