Yes, lots of thin people end up fat. I've struggled all my life but the rest of them, they hit 40 and they balloon up. The way I look at it is I kind of got things under control right about the time they all became big.

Anyway, I love low carb eating so it isn't a trial for me.

There are lots of wonderful low carb desserts and such you can make for an occasional splurge. Check out the recipes!

To the OP you sound like a binge-eater and I think you understand your situation pretty well. Like the alcoholic who can't even have a sip of alcohol, you need to just stay away from certain foods if you can't apply portion control while eating them. I'm speaking from the voice of experience here. I wasn't an emotional binge eater but nevertheless when I started eating certain foods there was just no stopping until they were gone.

It didn't take a rocket science to figure out that those binge-worthy foods all had very high carbohydrate content and for many of them the carbs were primarily from sugar. Those are the ones I've permanently put on hiatus from my diet and which I think you have to identify and target permanently for obsolesce from yours.

OTOH, I think certain high carb foods can be eaten if they don't trigger a binge. My wife loves sushi and at the two places we've gone to in the last 6 months for it there don't seem to be a lot of low-carb offerings on the menu. Consequently, I'll still have it with her, rice and all. I don't binge on it and I don't gain weight afterward. My point is that I don't believe your dietary future is as bleak and bland as you currently foresee it.

All of the above is just absolutely 100% my personal opinion. I do play a doctor in real life but not the kind you'd pay for dietary or medical advice.

I totally understand what you mean, I just can't stop at one slice of cake, one scoop of ice cream......
i guess the best thing to take from this thread is that we are NOT alone in this, there are a lot of people here who have the same issues and every day can be a huge struggle.
I am trying to get into the more "natural" foods, as many unproccessed as possible, I love my bacon but I know its not really the best choice for me.
There are a lot of alternatives to the high carb versions here you just have to give them a try.
Hugs to all the strugglers!

Really? You couldn't find anything in a sushi place that is low carb?
What do you call sashimi?

I love sushi and do eat it as a treat once in while, rice and all too!

Long term low (controlled)carb eating is a matter of perspective, IMO. We can sit and bitch and moan about missing our old favs or learn how to eat that will allow us to keep the weight off and be healthy.

I can totally relate to you Chelle.

To the original poster, what gets me through the "disappointment that I have to spend the rest of my life" with this WOE is the following:
1. This WOE is better for my health (I don't want to get diabetes, high blood pressure, etc)
2. I would rather be on this WOE than gain weigght
3. I am not constantly craving because the food on this WOE satisfies me
4. I don't have to hide to binge eat and feel guilty about food
5. I am in control when I eat this way
6. I don't have to dread trying on clothes to see if they fit
7. I sleep better and I have more energy

Hi Patty,

I'm sorry for your loss. As an apt. dweller, I've never had a lovable pet (allergic to cats), but I understand the place they have in their owners'/companions' lives.

You're not alone in feeling frustration and alienation about having no slack in how you eat. This is my 3rd time doing LC. Each of the first 2 times I used some flimsy excuse, e.g. "I just *can't* be this disciplined," "I can't handle the anxiety," or "Besides, a little bit won't hurt" to dive into the carbage.

Like you, I have no will power once I start sliding down that slope. The end of the slide is a place of great misery for me, worse than any feelings I have to cope while eating LC. I hope that my 2 trips down misery lane have been enough.

I'll be rooting for you.

That^^^^100 times

When you're ready you'll know it...the pain of change will become less than the pain of staying the same.

Progress not perfection.

Venting helps!! Get it all down. And work through the cravings. Yesterday so badly wanted some pizza!! So I wrote it all down. Everything. How much i wanted it, how good it would taste, and how i would feel afterwards. How I would feel the next morning when I realized how bad I had fallen off the diet....

that helped me. and im happy to report, I never had that pizza! And Im still on the LC train!
