Default Protein Power Pals - Monday - March 1

Welcome to the Protein Power Pals daily thread. All are welcome that are using, considering or curious about this WOE. We also welcome friends using other LC WOEs to drop by for some friendly conversation and a large glass of water.

My menus over the weekend weren't good - was over on carbs Friday and Sunday. My weight is up to 177 lbs this AM - likely from the steroids I'm on from the latest fall. I was up most of the night after having my first - and I hope my last - experience with maltitol. I will diligently avoid anything containing this ingredient from now on.

Started watching my calorie per pound intake several weeks ago to try to drop 5 lbs or so by about March 15. Calories per pound 1517 / 174 = 8.72 (aiming for around 8 to 9.5).

Totals may not be accurate today - I wasn't sure what to do with sugar alcohols.
Total calories: 1517
Fat: 74 gms 663 cal 46%
Sat: 22 gms 195 cal 13%
Poly: 21 gms 186 cal 13%
Mono: 29 gms 260 cal 18%
Carbs: 95 gms 300 cal 21% ECC: 75 gms
Fiber: 20 gms 0 cal 0%
Sugar alcohol: 46 gms 0 cal 0%
Protein: 123 gms 490 cal 34%

Breakfast:
4 egg-beater omelet with 2 ozs lean ham and 1 oz cheddar
Breakfast drink - 8 ozs water, 1 envelope sf gelatine, 1 scoop sf orange citrucel
30 ozs coffee (regular, brewed)

Lunch:
7 ozs baked ham - lean only eaten
1.5 cup sugar snap peas lightly buttered
.75 cup broccoli with .5 oz velveeta and about 1 t half & half

Snack:
2 scoops of Baskin-Robbins sf ice cream
Dinner:
Wendy's Spinach Chicken salad with ranch dressing

Snack: 1.5 oz mixed nuts

About 50 ozs water & 30 ozs coffee

Good morning, Renee & other PP Pals to follow:

Not too much to report here. I bought the newest Eades' book this weekend and read through it pretty quickly. I think it is a good supplement to PP and PPLP but it scares me that someone who does not know the science behind the program using only the new book. I also bought Dana Carpenter's How I Quit My Low-Fat Diet... and hope to read a lot of it today.

Renee - your menu looks good! I too have issues with sugar alcohols... horrid experience the first time I had LC chocolate. I hope you feel better soon.

Ellie - manic is right! Can't we skip Monday and go from Sunday to Thursday?

Have a fabulous cheat-free day, pals!

Paris

Morning Folks!!!

I'm soooo glad yesterday is over. lol We were so busy and I had to make do with my food. Did okay, considering. Too much salt though. My rings are off today. lol

Thanks to everyone for posting about calorie counts. Boy, have I been over-eating. I think I will take my calories goal down to 1100 and see what happens. I'm comfortable around 1400-1500 and more than satisfied around 1800. But, I don't lose on those numbers, sooooo I may decrease a bit over the week and end up at 1100 calories per day. I'm probably going to try to keep my ratios around 65%fat, 30%protein, and 5%carbs. Hopefully. lol I've also decided to only eat lean meat for a while. No frankenfoods. Fowl and Fish. I've also cut my lc products to an occassional treat for movies out and my daily protein shake for breakfast. I can't have all those other yummy things around or I'll never get this weight off. lol

I made some homemade mayo from a recipe in Dana C's 500 book. Wow. I don't think I'll ever buy the stuff again. Even DH loved it. Can't wait till the next batch to play around with the flavor a bit. Maybe less dry mustard and lemon and only olive oil.

Paris, what's the name of the Eades' latest book? I have PP and PPLP and would love to read more. Yesterday, I bought the Perricone Principle to learn about reversing my aging. Gotta get all the help I can in that area. lol Just in case the book doesn't work, I bought some hair color and some new "plumping" lipstick.

Well, that's about it from me today. Hope everyone is well and has a wonderful lowcarb day!!!!

Hi CarbGirl!

It's called 30 Day Low-Carb Diet Solution. I found it helpful with food planning, and the recipes look awesome... but there is no new research or science in it... kind of like Complete Idiot's Guide to Protein Power. However, I would recommend it just for the recipes and meal planning ideas.

HTH!

Good Morning!

My day is already flittering thru my hands.. I had a pretty empty day as far as scheduling goes.. but now I am feeling a little pressed for time. Leave it to me to wait to the last minute on things!

Orang-I deduct my sugar alc's along w/ my fiber from my carb count.. so that would give you 29 ECC right? I have read here and there, mostly from those doing atkins, that when they eat anything w/ sugar alc. their weight loss stalls. What is the reasoning behind that? Do you know?

I hope I am not reinventing the wheel here, but I made a muffin today, used my own 'concoction'.. will share here with you, I thought they were warm and yummy. Bawdy..what post number or url can I find your dobie muffin recipe? When I saw it, I was just at the beginning of it all, and rather overwhelmed more with my health aspects. Now I am thinking so much clearer..so ready to not only try new things, but creating some along the way! (sighs.. I think DAWN is coming back!)

Also, down another pound...yippee! So, the grand total for February was 7 lbs!
5 the first week, 2 eeked out this last week.. LOL! But hey, its gone!

Here is my little recipe:

3/1/04
Dawn’s Apple Cinnamon Muffins

½ cup Atkins bake mix
2 scoops keto apple cinnamon hot cereal mix
2 large eggs
½ cup Water
½ cup Half & Half
2 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp Vanilla imitation extract
¼ tsp cinnamon
2 Packets Splenda
Servings: 8 Medium or 6 Large

Mix ingredients, lightly greased or ungreased muffin pan ( I did both, they both worked fine, I didn’t try it w/paper liner) Bake ~350 for 12-15 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes; serve w/ your favorite L/c topping!

Dawn: This is Bawdy's recipe - I think she is snowed under at work today.

Dobie Muffins

2 cups ground flaxseeds
1 cup protein powder (I use Carb Solutions vanilla, which is already sweetened)
1/2 cup SF syrup (try using maple)
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
6 eggs
6 tsp extract (if you use SF maple syrup, use maple extract)
1 tsp salt
1 cup water

(note that you're not adding any oil; you won't need it)

Mix dry ingredients together in one bowl, and wet ingredients together in another bowl. Then mix the two. It will be lumpy. Let it sit AT LEAST 5 minutes to thicken.

Bake at 350 for at least 30 minutes. Maybe 45. Better to go a little longer because they stay "wet" in the middle otherwise.

This makes 12 LARGE muffins (or 24 regular-sized muffins).

Nutrition counts for 1 large (or 2 small):

With nuts:
258 calories
17 grams fat
8 grams ECC (fiber has already been deducted)
14 grams protein

No nuts:
193 calories
11 grams fat
7 grams ECC (fiber has already been deducted)
13 grams protein

NOTES: You can flavor these any way you like. For example, you can use orange SF syrup and orange extract. Or vanilla SF syrup and vanilla extract. If you don't have SF syrup, use the same amount of Splenda. Shouldn't make a difference.

good morning. i LOVE mondays!!! it is my day off with no kids and no bf. just me and the dog to do whatever we want!!! today however is packed with errands, starting with grocery shopping, and hopefully ending with the gym if i can squeeze it in before the kids get home from school

dawn. i recomend the dobie muffins, i am eating one as i type. don't get discouraged by the "snotty" texture, they bake into nice muffins. i like mine warmed up with some butter and sf jam(i make my own strawberry, it turned out more like compote then jam, but it it yummy)
yours sound good also, but i don't have any bake mix, or keto cereal..

bawdy is not swamped at work, she is hotrodding around in her new car!!!

orang--hope you are feeling better today. my sore snowboarding muscles are finally feeling better.

have a great day all!!

Good day for hotrodding!

Thanks orang for reposting that recipe for me..youre a doll! I have flax seeds, but will have to see how I can 'crush' them... my kitchen is not very well equipped. IN fact, I just only purchased my first 'whisk'..LOL..shhh..dont tell my mom!

The muffins I made aren't really a long lasting filling.. but then again, its noon, and it was around 9 that I ate them... so I guess not too bad really. I like the low calorie aspect of them as well. I really hate the desciptive word "Snotty"

Ok, honestly, going to work now on what I NEED to get done! Will check back later on!

Unity..lol.. you leave such cryptic messages.. lol. what is the answer??

Just have minute Had a pretty good weekend foodwise, Saturday's calories were a bit high but I did a pretty intense cardio workout and had much better energy than on Friday.

Sat menu
B - 2 eggs over easy, 5 slices thin bacon strips, 2 large cups coffee w.H&H splenda

Gym - 45 minutes elliptical machine, abs, arms

S- 1/2 cup keto choc crispies, 1/3 cup soy milk

S - Movies - sausage bites, hot & spicy peanuts, large diet coke

D - grilled chicken ceasar salad, no crutons or bread from IHOP, diet coke

S - 1 atkins lemon poppy muffin

Sun menu
B/L 1 carbwise bar (not very hungry) 2 cups coffee w/H&H splenda

S - late afternoon 1 slice deli roast beef, 1 sl pepper jack cheese, mustard rolled up

D - 1/2 baked chicken breast (recipe to follow), 1 grilled pork chop w/1 TBS lc bbq sauce, 2/3 cup mixed oreintal veggies w/butter

dessert - 1/2 3 minute choc cake w/whipped cream

Stephs yummy stuff

4-6 bonless chicken breasts
1/3 cup mayo (I used light mayo)
1/3 cup sour cream
2 TBS heavy cream ( I used H&H)
1/2 packet hidden valley ranch dressing mix
1 sm can sliced mushrooms
parmasan cheese (I used romano/parmasan blend)

Preheat oven to 375. Spray baking dish with pam, place chicken breasts in dish. Mix mayo, sour cream, cream and salad dressing mix together. Top chicken with sliced mushrooms. Divide mayo mixture evenly on top of each breast covering the mushrooms. Top with parmasan cheese, the more cheese you use the crustier it will get. Bake for 50-60 minutes, tops of chicken should be very brown with a crusty appearance. Reheats very well for a make ahead dish.

Just a quick note to those who have lower calories levels and exercising. Make sure you take in to account the calories you are burning during exercise. For example if you are trying to keep calories around 1300 per day but are burning 300 calories during exercise you would want to increase calories on those days.

ARGH!

Hubby accepted an invite to go out to dinner tonite after my Bible study .. to an ITALIAN restaurant...

oh brother..THAT will not be easy. I am sure they dont make a low carb cabbage version of anything..

Tonite is my first Bible study at the assisted living residence across the street from me. I will be leading it with about 4-6 ladies involved. So tonite will be introductory, etc. Was thinking .. last minute.. that I should bring a 'treat' and it should be something I can enjoy too.. hmmmmmmmm..

HI ALL!

Michele, thanks for sending me the moisture! 'school was called off today, our area has only gotten around 5 inches, Rapid has close to a foot! I Wish that it would of came over alittle more here, BUT I will take it! It made the chores a bear to do today (I "THOUGHT " I was in shape)HA I was huffing and puffing toting the 2 5 gallon grain buckets out to the calves, but I kept telling myself "It is a great workout, it is a GREAT workout!" WE have 3 bunks that you have to clean the snow out, then I take out 6 grain buckets of corn, then 4 of pellets.(works wonders on the biceps!)

Ellie, that chicken recipe sounds Yummy! infact if I have all of the ingrediants I am going to try that today!!!

Dawn, you can try the salads, sometimes the soups are good, also they might have things like chicken piccata? You could have alittle bit to eat BEFORE you go so you will not be as hungry and tempted to have a food item that will throw you off! Good luck!

Carbgirl, PLEASE let me know if the perricone book is worth getting! I have heard good things about it and would like to start the anti-aging fight myself! Working in the elements year round has started to show, I am the youngest and my oldest sis ( who NEVER ventures outdoors much and has an indoor job) teases me that I look like the oldest sister now!

Renee, good to see you post, how is everything going in your neck of the woods?? No more intruding police ?? I told my Dh about that , he said and we think that WE live a stressfull life??

Bawdy, Have fun breaking in your new vehicle!!!

Paris, yes the sf chocolates can be stumbling block! I am trying to keep the "tough to just have one" chocolates out of the house! I just get to the point that I will actually binge on them, and then REALLY pay for it!

Elaine, How is the pittsburgh gal doing?? When do you have to donate more blood next?? Make sure that you have plenty of iron in your system or you will end up fatiqued, I usto work at the red cross, it is nice when you can plan ahead and use your own! I will be praying for you when you have to go in for your surgery!

I have to get going now, I am going to go and see if I have the ingrediants for Ellie's chicken!

HELLO to everyone else! HAVE A LOVELY DAY!!!

Orang - What are we going to do with you They say things come in three's so this should be it for you. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Bawdy - Congrats on the CR-V!! I am so jealous! I have always wanted one, I have a 2002 civic ex, at the time I couldn't afford the CR-V. Sounds like you got an awesome deal as well.

Carbgirl - Do you exercise? If so 1100 calories may be too low for you. If your comfortable zone is 1400-1500 try knocking it down to 1250-1300 and see what happens.

Dawn - When entering the Italian Resturant stay strong!! Stick with salads or all meat dishes and see if they will replace the pasta with veggies. The last time I ate italian I had fettucinni alfredo with chicken and asked them to replace the pasta with veggies...it was pretty darn good and didn't miss the pasta.

Shelly - Stay dry I hope you like the chicken recipe, it is pretty tasty. I would suggest pounding the chicken breast down a bit.

I have Yoga tonight, actually looking forward to it. I am not feeling that great, appetite is way down as well. The 4 day sinus headache is now a sore throat and feel like another cold is coming on. I hope I feel better by next week, Vegas will not be fun if I am sick. I am thinking about treating myself to a tanning session while I am there, the spray on kind. I am going to have a SPA day..LOL. A workout in the state of the art fitness center, a foot massage, and tanning. The cost of this would be far less than a few hours in the casino
