... so I looked through my medicine cabinet and found a bottle of antidepressants. I looked at the pills, the pills looked at me - and I chucked the pills in the trash so that I could use the bottle for my potassium pills.
The point of this little stories is that without the mood swings and constant downs, I don't need my antidepressants anymore! I haven't been taking them for a while, so I figured "why waste a good bottle on something I will never use again?"
This is a really important point. I wonder how many people have been diagnosed as having some personality or mood disorder when all that was truly wrong was the diet: too much sugar --> lots of insulin --> crashing down of blood sugar levels with irritability and weakness and frantic needing to eat--> more sugar --> etc.
Getting off that treadmill is one of the best 'side-effects' of LCing for me.
I've noticed that Americans LOVE to be diagnosed with some sort of mental disorder (ADD, depression, anxiety, etc.). Now I'm sure that those disorders actually exist, but I think the overwhelming majority of them can be "cured" by getting rid of the crap in our diets.
I know that a lot of Americans would feel better if they just took a daily walk. There was a recent Newsweek article that reported as much as 80% of the positive response people feel while taking antidepressents is a placebo effect.
I too don't wish to discount any true medical depression that someone may have (I was there once!!). But the mind and body are intimately linked, and certainly a positive physical effect can't help but improve our mental state as well.
