Question recipies that don't use pork rinds

Some thirty years ago I went on a low carb diet. At that time I had not heard of Dr. Atkins. I jsut happened to pick up a booklet that described a diet where you could eat all the meat and eggs you wanted ant still lose weight. I lost a little over fity punds that summer.

Since then I have regained that weith plus right at another hundred. I am also now a diabetic, have heart problems, and the list goes on. I desperatly need to lose some serious weight.

I can't have pork therefore the recipies using pork rinds are out for me. I mis bread terribly. Until I started this diet. What can I use to make pancakes, etc. without using porkrinds? There are many other guestions but this is the one that is the most important to me right now.

Hi Helen and welcome to the forum!

First of all, I'm a bit curious why you can't have pork...food allergy? There's a wonderful recipe forum here that I'd recommend that you have a look through. There are several recipes for making muffins and pancakes with ground flax seeds or ground almonds. I've tried several of them and they're very tasty.
I'd also like to recommend that you have a look at this link: http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-a...lans/index.html
It gives brief descriptions of all the major low carb plans out there. It would be good to pick one and then get the book and read it. There's a lot more to low carb than just eating meat, eggs and cheese and it's always helpful to have a plan to follow and to refer to when you have a question.
This is a wonderful place for information and support, but we can't cover all the detailed information that is present in the books of each low carb plan.
Feel free to ask all the questions you want. Someone will always be able to find an answer for you or point you in the right direction. Happy low carbing!

Hi, Helen!

My doctor who is also on Atkins is Jewish and he avoids pork for religious reasons. I suggested that he might try milled flaxseed for pancakes and other baking because it works well for me. He didn't answer, so I don't know if I insulted him by mentioning another dietary restriction. (If I did, I apologize.)

Welcome to the forums!

FYI: "KETO" makes a low-carb pancake mix that is available at most health food stores here in NY. It can also be purchased online, and I will attach the link when I find it. Atkins also makes a low-carb flour substitute that is available at "Hannaford" grocery stores in NY(I am not sure if there are Hannafords in TX??), and online at www.atkinscenter.com
Happy LCing... I wish you much success!
