Hi,
I have been on a lo car diet since yesterday and am trying to find out more information and other people's success stories through this site.

I am not following the Atkins plan exactly, but have cut out sweets, rice , pasta, bread, and potatoes completely. I am limiting my calorie and car intake. Anyone know what a good daily carb intake is?

Welcome to lowcarb.ca Kathie!

You are off to a good start by eliminating some of the carbs in your diet, but please, please please do yourself the biggest favour you can ever do for yourself and get a book on the subject. You wouldn't learn how to drive without instructions and you want to learn how to "drive" one of your most precious assets: your body.

There are many different plans, have a look into them and find one that you can live with for the rest of your life.

Thanks Karen,

I'll try to get my hands on some programs. I noticed you are on the power protein? I am in the Caribbean until June and I don't have access to much.

What is your plan like? How has it helped you. I am not patient enough for a pound or two a week. I need to see results or I won't last.

Thanks for your input.
Kathie

PP is similar to Atkins, but lower in fat and a bit more lenient with carbs which works out to about the same as Atkins OWL. There is no induction period.

How much weight do you expect to lose every week?

You can either be impatient about it and remain unhealthy, unhappy and overweight or do something about it and LC for health, happiness and weight loss. Either way, time passes. In a year you could gain more weight, remain the same, or lose weight. Think long term.

Low carbing is not the means to an end - it's a continual learning process.

If I average my loss per week over 27 months, the weekly average is .71 per week. I am thrilled! I could have been 300 lbs. by this time with my knees shot. That's where they - and I -was heading before LC.

Thanks, Karen

I will try to get my hands on that program. I would love to start out losing 5 pounds a week but will settle for the 10 pounds a month eventually. I have a lot to lose and with added exercise I hope I am not being unrealistic.

I have done one of the Atkins diets in the past and it was too much meat/fat for me to feel good. Iwill check out the one you mentioned. I need my veggies!

Thanks again for all your input,
Kathie

I'm sure it's been said a thousand times, but I'm sure you haven't been gaining 5 lbs. a week, so don't expect to loose 5 lbs. a week. The instant reward to this is feeling better. the weight will come off.
be happy and take your time,
Brenda
