Red face Vitamin C and Me...a Cautionary Tale

I was concerned I might be lacking in Vitamin C, as I really don't eat any fruit at all, and I was slacking a bit on the veggies. So many strengths of vitamin C to buy! I'll try the 1000mg. I took the capsule at my evening meal, and went to bed that night feeling satisfied that I would not come down with scurvy.

I woke up in the morning with a belly amazingly distended with gas! OMG! Did you know that vitamin C can cause gas? IT DOES! After a few fun yoga moves the gas was successfully (and hilariously) dispelled. I now cut my Vitamin C tablets into two (500mg is quite enough) and take it at breakfast.

If you take a lot of Vit C at once you will spend the day in your bathroom. Even though it is exreted and never becomes toxic, it will do a number on me if I hit 1500 or above.

I've never heard this before! I take 2,000mg vit C daily (1,000mg capsule first thing in the morning and another at lunch) and have never had this issue. Weird!

The body can only absorb 1,00 mg of vitamin C at a time/dose though you can take vitamin C every hour if need be. It is useless to take more in one dose.

I don't supp Vitamin C-triggers cold sore breakouts for me-another side effect of extra Vitamin C.

I get this also. I will get canker sores in my mouth from too much C.
