Default Vancouver Low Carb Get Together - Thursday, April 15th

By popular choice, we are proposing an Indian low carb get together this time, on Thursday, April 15th. The location suggested is:

Samosa Garden Restaurant
3502 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC V5R5L7 (bet Joyce & Boundary, south side)
(604) 437-3502

There is a dinner buffet (all day Sunday and 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Mondays thru Thursdays), so I'm proposing a 6:30 PM start time for our get together, if that works for everyone.

They also said they have no objection to us bringing our own "cake". Oh, and the cost for the buffet is $10.95. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with outside and inside parking, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Who's in?

Attending
Jean (and maybe Rob)

Jean, as always, you're our ace organizer. Where would we be wiithout you? Not having LC get-togethers, that's for sure!

Count me in, and I'll check with DH and see if he's available too. I may ask another friend as well, since that's so reasonably priced.

I'll mention to Sarlye, too....

Choices in the Park (behind Edmonds Skytrain) now has low-carb Breyer's ice cream, bars and sandwiches, as well as a lot of Carbsense foods....

I got some Breyer's low carb ice cream tonight at IGA on Kingsway - it was available in vanilla and chocolate. Horribly expensive, thought.. $7.99. They also have some ice cream bars and sandwiches, but they're higher carb.

They also have Legend Carb Trim ice cream, but it seems to be sweetened with aspartame and ace-K. If I read the label correctly, it's 2 net carbs per 1/2 cup.

That particular IGA didn't have the SF Jones Soda but said they would get it in now that I've asked for it. They do have a pretty good selection of low carb mixes & bars now, all together. I picked up some of the new Genisoy Crunch LC bars, because I tried one a workmate gave me (Lemon Crunch) and it was awesome!

Hi Jean

Rumours have been flying around about an Indian feast - Wanda mentioned it on Sat when I was at TFH ~ SP.

Coming from Langley, it's iffy whether I'll be there for 6:30. Surely by then I'll need a drink after coping with bridges & nasty traffic.

My proposed route is to use 88th ave to Nordel, Alex Fraser bridge & then Marine Dr to Boundary. Anyone have a better idea? Hwy 1 is a b*tch on Thurs/Fri so I won't even consider that route.

See you on the 15th! -- oh, and it'll be Karen's birthday celebration

I'm in!!

No idea how the heck I'll get there by 6:30 but I'll find it! Plus - someone will have to help guide me in my food selection choices ... I haven't had Indian food since starting LC'ing, and I haven't a clue what's safe

Thumbs up Thanks for pointing me here!

Jean: Thank you for thinking of me.

I am on a planning committee for a show on May 29 and Thursday is our meeting night. Count me as a Maybe and I will come when I can sneak away. But I LOVE Butter Chicken, do they have it there? I can eat that all day.

Chick Pea Dal is great. Too bad Samosas are not Low Carb.

Count me in, too!

As you well know, Jeannie, I'm an Indian Food fiend

I'll need some help choosing foods, too, because I'm not sure of carb counts. I'll try to find a site that has some nutritional info and post it here....

www.ashleysdiabetesinfo.com

Click on the link, then choose 'Ashley's diabetes info.', then go to search (top right corner) and put in 'Indian', then click on #1. Has nutritional info on all kinds of Indian foods.

Also, Atkins Nutritionals under Dining Out, Indian Food has some good info.

www.Atkins.com Search word: Indian (under Dining Out)

I'm going to write down the ones with acceptable carb levels and then I'll know what to choose at the restaurant

This place has very good butter chicken but whether it'll be on the buffet or not, is another question. If not, perhaps some of us will want to order it separately to share... ya never know, could happen!

Nicole, thanks for the links, I'll have to check them later - going downtown today and have to leave in a minute!

I either PM'd or posted in the journal of everyone who responded to the last GT thread about this one. I think there were only 2 people who didn't have enough posts for PMs yet. So, if anyone sees folks around who live in the area, let them know about the GT, k?

I was just thinking about that on the way home tonight! I'll volunteer, if you like. Course, it'll have to be some variation on your own NY Style Cheesecake recipe!

Please count me in, I look forward to another wonderful evening with great company and food.
Not sure if it would be a help or not but if anyone wanting to come in on the skytrain I would be happy to pick you/them up and drive them to the restaurant and back. I live very near the 29th Street Station which is small and would be easy for finding and returning people.

cheers
Malvene
