Default beer

My husband & I have been following Atkins for 8 weeks now .We have both lost weight - he has lost 8 kgs and I have lost almost 5. Anyway, before this WOE he was drinking large amounts of Coke and a fair amount of beer. He has been very self controlled - and has only been drinkign water & decaf tea. - (he doesn't like diet drinks.) Anyway, last night, as a result of a bad day at work, he decided to treat himself to a nicely chilled bottle of Tooheys New. He took one mouthful and declared that there must be something wrong with it as he found it too sweet! He then tried Coke - he had the same reaction!! he couldn't understand it!! Our tastes have changed dramatically - I am a reformed chocoholic and find many things far too sweet now! Not a bad thing I suppose.
Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them?

Lucy

Hi Lucy,

Yes this is normal. When you don't eat sugar you become much more sensitive to the sweetness.

I find I generally reduce the quantity of AS in things now also, because I prefer the taste on non-sweet things.

Cheers
Kim

Default Low Joule Beer

Hi Lucy

Carlton Breweries in Vic make a low joule beer - I don't think it is as sweet as some of the other beers. Perhaps it is available in NSW. Look out for a Tooheys one too, as I read a review saying this was the best tasting low joule beer - I have searched for it here but no sign of it anywhere. The low joule ones are carbohydrate modified and have less sugar - not artificially sweetened, and approx the same alchohol content. They used to be called Diet Ale and can be included in the diet of diabetics (in moderation) as the carb and sugar content is listed on the can/stubby and can be counted as part of the sugar/carbohydrate content of a diabetic diet.

I think your taste does change as I used to prefer dry white wine but now like dry red better and I think it is less sweet than the white - although I still like the occasional glass of good quality sparkly.

I still like a little bit of 70% cocoa chocolate or Cadbury Lite chocolate on occasion too.

Great your partner doesn't like diet drinks - mine drinks far too much caffeine free diet coke - trying to wean him off it! He also adds Bundy sometimes - EEEEEEK, alchohol made from SUGAR! What could be worse!

Bye now

Gemma
