Adapt Your Life and Dr Westman began a new video series, a weekly Q& A today at noon. Today was a update on Co-vid, https://youtu.be/u_AfeEsojbs
I liked the new 30 minute format on one topic.

Next week's topic and request for any questions on it:

There are hundreds of other short videos of Dr Westman addressing one Low carb topic on YouTube. Or the Adapt Your Life FB page.

I pulled out an old tattered copy of DANDR looking for those special chapters on support supplements. Found tyrosine for basic cravings and the supplement list for sugar cravings. And much more.

Does Dr Westmann cover such information ??

L-Carnitine is one that he recommended, I believe.

Generally, Dr Westman does not add supplements beyond a no-iron multi. If you have a known / tested deficiency then you would work with your doctor.

After years of announcing a new book was in the works and delays, there finally is a title and publication date of December 15th. I haven’t seen it, but scope sounds broad. Victory Belt is the publisher, they usually offer a Kindle version as it gets nearer date.

I hope Dr Westman's new book will get positive reviews in the press
unlike the treatment of everything Atkins wrote
despite the fact that both physicians were sharing the results of the patients they had treated
Professional medical journals will not publish low carbohydrate studies
so researchers/clinicians have to resort to books

Dr Westman has published almost 80 research papers, many of them in the past five years. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Eric+C+Westman. Just this month he edited a journal of 9 articles on using low carb for health issues. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=484407

The information is there if doctors choose to listen to their patients and approach nutrition with an open mind. 52 LC studies were submitted to DGAC, ignored or dismissed if "weight loss" was the goal. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthr...58&page=1&pp=15

Janet, thanks for update on Dr Westman’s upcoming book. I’ll get in the queue to get it. While waiting ... what one book of Dr. Westman’s would you recommend- the bible if you will. Something like the ‘72 Dr Atkins book. TIA

For the past 22 years, he has focused on low carb clinical research, not writing books. He lists the New Atkins for a New You book first on his own website, though that book is not the clinic plan and written with Atkins company editing. Sources for his own writing and research: https://drericwestman.blog/

The clinic plan, often short-handed to its Food List or Page 4, is in the back of Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. That is still my favorite book to learn about Low Carb. Dr Westman did not write it but some history of and the essence of his clinic plan can be found there. https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-co...starch_diet.pdf

Janet, I am glad to hear Dr Westman has been able to publish his findings in medical journals

Volek and Phinney are very clear in their book of the difficulties in getting published in medical journals. Yet they have tightly controlled experimental designs.

The U-tube presentations recommended by this forum on the metabolic conference in Australia constantly reaffirms the difficulty in getting lo-carb published in medical journals and having to resort to televised conferences to get their message across.

So I am glad to hear someone is getting through. Too bad the committee on the Dietary Guidelines has not read his body of work.

It’s been five years since this thread started and Dr. Westman‘s newest book is now available and clearly written with the help of Amy Berger, but the diet is still the same! What he has been emphasizing in his many many videos on the Adapt your life YouTube channel is that keto should not add fats especially adding liquid oils or butter to coffee or other Internet guru ideas. Priortise protein, cut the carbs, you lose hunger without eating added fats.

The End Your Carb Confusion book has three phases, and Phase 1, aka the Clinic diet or Page 4, Food List now spells out 2 T mayo, 2 T butter or cream and 2T salad dressing, Max per day Each. Foods lists are the same The book has great reviews, if you want a new Low Carb book for the New Year...I highly recommend it. If you do not need the strictest, "prescription strength" weight loss plan...this book has two additional food lists with more veg, dairy and carbs.

https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Car...e/dp/1628604298

Adapt You Life has been hosting FB Live discussions and Conversations with Dr Westman on YouTube and FB. Last night, his Live session on handling the Holidays was over an hour, also covering the book and diet. https://youtube.com/c/AdaptYourLife

I am still an admin for the FB support group, which has many new members from his recent "Masterclass".
There are hundreds of videos in the playlists at YouTube, which we use to answer questions...or you can search the YT channel to find his answers to topics of interest.

I was happy to see that this is also available on kindle now. I bought it, now I just have to sit down and read it. Even if I procrastinate on reading it, I wanted to support the book just to cast my vote (so to speak) for keeping things simple and accessible, especially considering how many people are facing financial struggles right now. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

Thanks, Kristine! The Kindle is only $9.99 and good reviews of the book will help others looking for a New Year's low carb diet find a simple one that works and is backed by research.
Happy Holidays!
