Question Low Carb Kids Ideas

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. We have been low carbing on and off for about 3 years. I have five children who are also low carbing with my husband and I. My kids are aged 13, 10, 10, 6, and almost 2.

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for school lunches. Luckily, my kids HAVE to take lunch to school because they go to a Charter school that doesn't serve hot lunch. But, what should I pack them? I am running out of ideas and they are tired of the meat, little cheese, veggies, and fruit. Please, all ideas are needed.

Thanks in advanced,

Christine

My children love dips with vege sticks. I give them hummus, or sour cream dips.
Have you considered making some low carb muffins or protein bars? I saw this recipe yesterday
http://www.elanaspantry.com/2008/02/01/power-bars/
I also give them homemade yoghurt wuth berries, usually raspberry is the favourite. THey also like yoghurt with vanilla essence and almonds.
These are fantastic too! http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=189363
You can bake oopsies for sandwiches ,

or how about a thermos flask of hoemade soup or stew? Hth!

we have to get Cleo to reply. She's got a whole mess of kids too.

Here's her blog with a bunch of great, kid-tested recipes.

• Jicama slices and some sort of dip
• Almond meal crepe roll-ups filled with peanut butter or almond butter
• Mozzarella salad (I need to post that recipe on my blog, but it is basically cubes moz. cheese, cucumbers and grape tomato with olive oil and balsamic marinade)

That's all I could think of on short notice

ooh, chocolate/almond oopsies. I forgot!

my dd is on low carb and loves these. Just add more sweetener and a few tablespoons of cocoa (3 cream cheese, 3 cocoa, for example). I take two, spread mascarpone cheese and one sliced strawberry on it to make an oopsie breakfast sandwich.

She also loves taco salad.

Did you try the normal ones or chocolate ones? I've just made the normal ones so far, they have been brilliant when I really feel like a sandwich! Those chocolate ones sound really good too!

I've got a son I'm trying to become more lowcarb, because he's becoming addicted to carby foods. I have a thermos type container that I heat with hot water, which has an insert divided into two sections. I heat leftover meat in one, and either veggies or rice (I know) in the other, since he really doesn't want his food "touching." It stays warm until lunch. He really likes it, but it's only something I can use when I'm organized!

This woe really does require more organisation and prep work. More cooking and shopping too!

I tried the plain oopsies. I am going to try the chocolate ones next. The kids really liked them. I have also made the blueberry muffins from elanaspantry.com. Those were really good.
