Smile Hello

Hi! I'm Barb. I am from WV and I was in this forum a while ago and I just couldn't seem to wrap my head around any kind of weight loss programs. I started on a basic low carb program given to me by my eye doctor and he told me did I want my sweets or do I want my eyesight? I started that day at 283.4 and I am now 260.0 and have gotten off of my glucose meds. I couldn't remember my password or screen name from the last time so thought I would start new since I have a new lease on life.

It feels great to be back and to be able to go off of diabetes medications is really a big deal to me!! I don't lose fast because I haven't been exercising but as I feel better I would like to start doing some type of easy on the body exercise.

Hi Barb! Welcome [back]!

Your eye doctor is a smart cookie. I have retina issues myself and would do anything to save (fix) my vision.

Good luck on your journey! Looking forward to seeing “less” of you over the weeks and months!

You know I am at a stall now but I am not worrying a whole lot about it. It will come off as it comes off. I am just enjoying life without having to take diabetes meds. My blood pressure has been up but I believe that it will go down next.

Another West Virginian! Where are you from? I'm in Morgantown. I am so glad that you have lost weight and that you have got off your glucose medicine. Keep going!

Welcome! There are plenty of people who have lost lots of weight without doing any exercise at all. You won't start to lose much faster just because you're burning off a couple hundred calories a day with exercise. I wouldn't worry about it too much. However, exercise can have it's benefits.

Walking, golfing, housework, other moderate cardio activity, or really any exercise can lower insulin, which in turn increases your fat burning ability a little bit. Or provide other benefits if you have diabetes. It doesn't take much--just a 15 or 20 minute walk or yoga routine will help.

Exercise like bodyweight strength training, weight lifting, Pilates, etc. will build muscle, which in turn increases your BMR. As you probably know, muscle is heavier than fat, so you might be the same weight on the scale, but experience some body recomposition, so you're smaller.

Hi Janet! Yes that is me! I couldn't remember my password to that account and so I made up this one. I am finally off of any diabetes meds at least for the time being. My glucose levels were going too low and the doctor took me off of them. They are staying down pretty good so far. It is good to see you again.

Great to see you again! Good to hear that you are doing so well you are off the diabetes medications. When you "Reverse" diabetes through diet, there is no going back, no cheating. Even trying to raise the carb level (or climb the ladder in Atkins terms) doesn't work to keep your blood glucose low.

Lots of exciting news in the Diabetes world/sub-forum, including the ADA supporting Low Carb as a treatment option. Dr. Westman's plan is still a good basic LC effective for diabetes control. https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-co...starch_diet.pdf

Hang around longer this time!

Yes, I will hang around longer this time. I am losing weight really slow but I am not worrying about how slow it comes off. I just want to keep my sugar low and heal from within. I eat from the list of low carb things that my doctor gave me and just stay on track.

A friend of mine keeps preaching the low calorie low fat program to me and I just lay the phone in my lap and let her talk because I am not going to go back and stop something that is working for me.

I was in the hospital for 3 days in August because my sugar went too low. That is why I was taken off sugar meds.
